Lower-income help

The state lists King County and Energy Smart Eastside as local partners for its home electrification rebates for households at or below 150 percent of area median income. King County received $3,775,416 and Energy Smart Eastside $500,000. The state page gives no dollar amount per household, so ask the partner. The federal clean energy credits ended after 2025.

Bellevue homes in numbers

The US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) counts 66,021 homes in Bellevue. About 52 percent of households own and 48 percent rent. About 46 percent of homes are detached houses and about 5 percent sit in buildings of two to four units. About 47 percent were built before 1980, almost none before 1940, and about 27 percent in 2000 or later.

For main heating fuel, about 52 percent of homes use electricity and about 46 percent use utility gas. That near-even split makes the choice between PSE's electric and gas rebates a real one for many Bellevue households.

Electric or gas, check your bill

PSE sorts its heat pump rebates by what heats your home now. Electric resistance heat gets the $1,500 rebate. A gas furnace can get the $1,500 hybrid rebate if the furnace stays as a backup. An income-qualified gas household that leaves gas behind can get $4,000. The rules are about your PSE accounts, so look at which PSE bills you get. Our Puget Sound Energy guide has every rule.

Contractor rule

PSE says you must use a PSE Recommended Energy Professional or Trade Ally and you may not use an out-of-network contractor or do the work yourself. Ask each bidder to confirm in writing that they are in PSE's network. That matters, because a rebate from a contractor who is not in the network can be denied.
