What PPL Electric pays Allentown homes in 2026
PPL lists 15 rebates in its store, and each has an Apply for Rebate button. Some customers qualify for larger enhanced amounts based on income, which is why several cards show two numbers. Equipment installed on or before May 31, 2026 is no longer eligible.
Air source heat pump
ENERGY STAR certified, rated as a whole system in the AHRI database. Two efficiency tiers, from SEER2 15.2 and from SEER2 16.3.
Mini-split and ground source heat pumps
Mini-splits need SEER2 15.2+, EER2 11.7+ and HSPF2 7.8+. Ground source units need ENERGY STAR certification.
Smart thermostat
Needs a heat pump, or fossil heat with central A/C, or an electric furnace with central A/C. Not for baseboard heat.
Insulation and air sealing
Attic, exterior wall, rim joist and basement wall, plus air sealing up to $150. Needs electric heat, or central A/C with non-electric heat.
Appliances and cooling
Refrigerator $50 or $75, dehumidifier $25 or $50, air purifier $25, central A/C $150 or $175, room A/C $15.
Home battery
None of PPL's 15 rebates is for a battery. See our state page for what to weigh instead.
Penn Energy Savers
The state's federal-funded rebates have no launch date or amounts yet.
Weatherization Assistance Program
For households at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, through your county's agency.
Federal 25C and 25D credits
Nothing for work done after December 31, 2025.
All of PPL's offers are claimed in the same rebate store, so one account handles a heat pump, a thermostat and an insulation job in a single visit. The "Check Best Offers" questions sort you into the standard or enhanced level before you buy.
Allentown's homes
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) counts 49,502 homes in Allentown, with 46,374 occupied. Rowhouses and twins are 36.0% of the stock, detached houses 25.9% and buildings of two to four units 15.0%. Homes are old: 82.1% were built before 1980 and 37.9% before 1940, with only 9.3% from 2000 or later.
Renters are the majority
Allentown is a renter city: 56.8% of households rent and 43.2% own, the highest rental share of the four Pennsylvania cities we cover. PPL pays the customer who buys the equipment, so many of these upgrades need a landlord. Tenants can still use the small ones: a thermostat on an eligible system, a dehumidifier, an air purifier or a refrigerator.
The oil homes
Fuel oil heats 14.1% of Allentown households, the highest oil share of our four cities, against 2.7% in Philadelphia and 0.6% in Pittsburgh. Oil costs more per unit of heat and needs deliveries, so a heat pump runs most of the season and the oil furnace can stay as backup. The PPL heat pump pages we read set no rule about the old fuel, only about the efficiency and rating of the new system.
Gas and electric homes
Utility gas heats 44.2% of homes and electricity 39.5%. For electric homes, a heat pump cuts power use for the same warmth. For gas homes, savings are smaller, and a heat pump makes more sense when the central A/C needs replacing anyway. PPL's insulation and thermostat rebates also cover gas-heated homes, but only with central air conditioning.
