Home Energy Rebates in Peoria

Peoria is served by Ameren Illinois for electricity and gas, and Ameren Illinois is the one big utility whose rebate amounts we could not read. Its rebate site blocked our reader on October 6, 2026, and we did not work around that. So this page lists what we did confirm, including free state weatherization and solar credit payments, and says clearly where we have no number. It also shows why Peoria's housing makes the free programs worth checking first.

What we confirmed for Peoria in 2026

A card marked "Check first" means we could not read the official page, so we show no amount.

Peoria homes in numbers

The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey counts 54,010 homes in Peoria and 49,037 lived in year-round. Owners are 57.5% of households and renters 42.5%. Detached houses are 63.1% of homes, attached houses 4.8% and buildings of two to four homes 6.1%.

Homes are old: 69.0% were built before 1980, 20.4% before 1940 and 16.7% since 2000.

Electric heat is common here

Electricity heats 31.0% of Peoria homes, the highest share among our four Illinois cities. Utility gas heats 67.2%, bottled gas 0.6% and fuel oil 0.1%. A household that heats with electric baseboards or a furnace with electric coils can cut its bill with a heat pump, if a rebate and a good installer make the numbers work. Ask Ameren Illinois what it pays before you buy.

Free help comes first

For program year 2027 the state's income limit is $31,920 for one person, $43,280 for two, $54,640 for three and $66,000 for four. Eligible homes can get air sealing, insulation, heating repair or replacement and water heater work, up to $20,000 plus $4,000 for health and safety. Households that got help from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program in the past 12 months qualify too.

Solar in Ameren Illinois's area

Group A pays $70.37 per credit for a small home system in 2026-27, less than Group B's $80.77 in ComEd's area. That is a real gap, but solar savings also depend on your roof and your bill. Ask for the number of credits in writing. See our Illinois solar guide.

Owners and renters

Renters are 42.5% of Peoria households, a larger share than in Naperville or Aurora. A tenant can ask the landlord to apply for weatherization, and the state program serves homes and apartments. Free programs rarely need money from the tenant, so ask the landlord to look at the income limits before anyone signs a contract for new equipment. Keep any promise from a landlord in writing.

How we will update this page

When we or Ameren Illinois publish readable amounts we will add them with the date we read them. Until then, we would rather say we do not know than guess.
