What insulation rebates pay in Bellevue

We read Puget Sound Energy's weatherization page on October 6, 2026. You must be a PSE electric or natural gas customer, and PSE electricity or gas must be your main source of heat. The rebate is an instant discount, so your contractor deducts it from the invoice.

Working it out

A Bellevue house with an 1,100 square foot attic at R-11 would earn 1,100 times $1.75, which is $1,925, for the insulation, plus 1,100 times $0.20, or $220, for sealing the attic. That is $2,145 off the invoice. Your contractor measures the real area and checks the existing level.

Bellevue's housing stock

The US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) says about 47 percent of Bellevue homes were built before 1980, almost none before 1940 and about 27 percent in 2000 or later. That is a newer mix than in Spokane or Tacoma, so a share of Bellevue homes will already have more insulation than the rebate's starting levels. PSE says the attic amount depends on the type of home and the amount of insulation already there. Start with a measurement before you plan.

Because the amounts are per square foot, the order of work matters. Ask the contractor to list the area of each space, the old R-value and the new R-value on the bid, and to say whether air sealing is included. If two bids show different areas for the same attic, ask why. A short walk through the attic with the contractor is the easiest way to settle it.

About 46 percent of Bellevue homes are detached houses and 52 percent of households own. The rebate is for single-family homes of four units or fewer and manufactured homes.

Who can claim

You must be a current PSE residential electric or natural gas customer and use PSE electricity or gas as the main source of space heating. You must live in a single-family home of four units or less, or a manufactured or mobile home. New construction and buildings with five or more attached units are not eligible. A PSE Recommended Energy Professional or Trade Ally must do the work. PSE says you may not use an out-of-network contractor or do the work yourself.

Free help for lower incomes

PSE says income-qualified customers may be eligible for its no-cost Home Weatherization Assistance Program. The page does not give the income limits or the work covered. PSE's Efficiency Boost form is the quickest way to see where your household stands. Our Washington home electrification guide covers the state programs for lower incomes.

How to claim a Bellevue insulation rebate

  1. Check that PSE supplies your main heat, either electricity or natural gas.
  2. Ask a PSE Recommended Energy Professional or Trade Ally to measure your existing insulation.
  3. Ask for a bid that shows the PSE instant rebate as its own line.
  4. Check the Efficiency Boost form and the Home Weatherization Assistance Program if your income may qualify.
  5. Keep the final invoice.
