PSE up to $300, Tacoma Power up to $600

Home EV Charger Rebates in Washington

Two Washington utilities have verified home charger offers. Puget Sound Energy pays up to $300 for a smart Level 2 charger, with higher amounts by income. Tacoma Power gives up to $600 in bill credits, and renters can apply.

What Washington utilities pay for home EV chargers

We read Puget Sound Energy's EV home charger page and Tacoma Power's EV charging page on October 6, 2026. We did not read a home charger rebate from Seattle City Light, Avista or Clark Public Utilities, so we list none for them. Clark Public Utilities lists an electric vehicle program, but we did not open it.

Open

Puget Sound Energy home charger rebate

Up to $300

For an ENERGY STAR Level 2 smart charger that PSE has prequalified and that connects to Wi-Fi. You must own, lease or have ordered an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, and apply within 60 days of installation.

Open

PSE income-qualified charger incentive

Up to $600 plus $2,000 install

Up to $600 for the charger and up to $2,000 toward professional installation for households that meet PSE's income table.

Open

Tacoma Power EV charging credits

Up to $600

$400 bill credits for a Level 2 charger, a smart splitter, electrical work or a 240-volt outlet, with a $600 maximum for more than one. You do not have to own your home.

Working it out

A Tacoma Power customer who buys a charger and pays an electrician for the wiring could claim two $400 credits, but the total is capped at $600, and the credit cannot exceed the real cost of materials and documented labor. A PSE customer who passes the income check could receive up to $600 for the charger plus up to $2,000 for installation, if the installer's receipt shows the cost.

Rules that matter at PSE

PSE says the charger must be installed in a property within PSE's electric service area, you must be a current residential customer with electric service, and you must buy and install it after January 1, 2024. You need an online PSE account to apply online. If a professional installs the charger, the installation receipt must show the date, a description of the work, the price and proof of payment. PSE links an income table for the higher amounts in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Rules that matter at Tacoma Power

You must be a current Tacoma Power residential customer, buy and install the equipment before you apply, and provide proof of purchase and installation dated within the last 90 days. The limit is one incentive per customer account. The credit comes off your bill. The credit cannot be more than the cost of materials or documented labor. Tacoma Power says you do not have to own your home, which makes it one of the few offers on our Washington list open to renters.

Federal credit and other help

The federal tax credit for home charging equipment is not covered by the IRS clean energy credit page we read, so we do not mention a federal amount for chargers. Ask a tax adviser about your own case. The State Department of Commerce's home electrification rebates list wiring and panel upgrades needed for new electric equipment, but not EV chargers by name. See our Washington home electrification guide for how local partners work.

How to claim a Washington EV charger rebate

  1. Find your electric utility on your bill. PSE and Tacoma Power are the two verified offers on our list.
  2. Check the charger is on your utility's approved list before you buy.
  3. Install it and keep the receipts, with dates and the cost of labor.
  4. Apply within the deadline: 60 days for PSE, and with proof dated inside 90 days for Tacoma Power.
  5. If you rent, ask whether your landlord agrees to the install before you spend money.
