What Puget Sound Energy pays in 2026
We read each PSE rebate page on October 6, 2026. The amounts below are the ones on PSE's own pages that day. PSE says these rebates are for existing single-family homes. New homes, buildings with five or more attached homes, and businesses use other programs. Most of them also need a contractor from PSE's own network, so you cannot do the work yourself and still claim.
Electric heat to heat pump
For a home whose main heat is electric resistance, such as baseboards, wall heaters or an electric furnace. Income-qualified households get $2,400.
Gas furnace to heat pump (moderate income)
For PSE natural gas customers who meet the income check and swap a gas system for a heat pump.
Hybrid heat pump with a gas furnace
A ducted heat pump added to a gas furnace. The pair must be set up so the furnace stays off above a set outdoor temperature. Income-qualified households get $2,400.
Heat pump replacing a heat pump
For an old ducted electric heat pump past its warranty. Income-qualified households get $2,400.
Heat pump water heater
Tier 3 or Tier 4 models installed on or after January 1, 2026. Income-qualified households get $1,100.
Insulation and air sealing
Attic insulation pays $1.75 per square foot up to $3,500 for the thinnest attics. Walls and floors pay $2.50 per square foot up to $5,000 each.
Windows
Higher for income-qualified homes at $200 per window. You must buy and install by December 31, 2026.
Smart thermostat
Income-qualified households get $175 for a central system or $130 for a line-voltage thermostat.
Home EV charger
Income-qualified households can get up to $600 for the charger and up to $2,000 toward installation.
Home battery (Flex Batteries)
You enroll a compatible battery, and PSE pays for letting it help the grid on busy days.
A quick example
A family in Bellevue heats with baseboard heaters and wants a ductless heat pump and a new water heater. The heat pump rebate is $1,500 and the heat pump water heater rebate is $1,000, so that is $2,500 from PSE before any income-based increase. The Efficiency Boost amounts would raise it to $2,400 plus $1,100, which is $3,500. Your exact amount depends on the equipment and on whether your household passes the income check.
How the Efficiency Boost works
PSE says about half of its customers qualify for Efficiency Boost, which means higher rebates for the same upgrade. You check on PSE's own form by entering your household size, your monthly income before taxes and your county. The form covers ten counties, including King, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston. PSE says it does not save the information you type. The income table that PSE links is a PDF last changed in June 2025, so we do not copy the income limits here. Use the live form.
The Efficiency Boost raises the heat pump rebate from $1,500 to $2,400, the water heater from $1,000 to $1,100, the smart thermostat from $75 to $175 and the window rebate from $100 to $200 per window. PSE also lists higher EV charger and battery amounts for income-qualified homes.
What your heating fuel decides
PSE sorts its heat pump rebates by what heats your home now, so look at your bills first. If your main heat is electric resistance, you can use the $1,500 electric rebate. If it is a gas furnace and you want to keep the furnace as a backup, the hybrid rebate fits. If you want to leave gas behind and your household passes the income check, the $4,000 gas-to-electric rebate is the larger one. Oil, propane and wood heat are not on the list of starting points on the pages we read, so ask PSE before you plan around them.
Every one of these pages also says a home that already has a heat pump serving the main living area is not eligible, with one exception: the heat pump upgrade rebate for an old ducted electric unit. That rule catches people with a small ductless unit in one room, so ask PSE if you are in that spot.
Rules that trip people up
Use a PSE Recommended Energy Professional or Trade Ally. PSE says you may not use an out-of-network contractor or do the work yourself. The rebate cannot be more than the price you pay after tax. Most pages say to allow four to six weeks for processing. The water heater rebate has to be applied for within 30 days of installation, the moderate-income heat pump rebate within 30 days, and the thermostat and appliance rebates within 60 days. Dates matter, so keep your invoice and receipt in one folder.
For ductless systems PSE wants a variable-speed, inverter-driven unit of at least three quarters of a ton, with one indoor head in the main living area. Systems that use any duct, even a short one from a hidden indoor unit, do not count as ductless. That detail changes what a contractor quotes, so ask for the rebate rules to be checked before you sign.
Things we could not confirm
PSE's washer and dryer page shows two sets of amounts that do not match each other, so we do not quote any. The window page did not show the U-factor cut-offs between its two rebate levels when we read it. PSE's rebates also have no end date on the pages we read except where it says December 31, 2026, so check the date again before you plan a project for 2027.
How to claim a PSE rebate
- Look at your bills to see whether PSE sends your electric bill, your gas bill or both. Rebates depend on which fuel PSE supplies.
- Check Efficiency Boost on PSE's income form before you pick equipment, so you know which amount applies.
- Choose a PSE Recommended Energy Professional or Trade Ally and ask them to confirm in writing which rebate the quote assumes.
- Keep your paid invoice with the date, address, brand and model number, and apply inside the deadline shown on the rebate page.
- Call PSE's Energy Advisors at 1-800-562-1482 if a rule does not fit your home.

Common questions
How much is the Puget Sound Energy heat pump rebate?
On October 6, 2026 PSE's pages showed $1,500 for electric heat to heat pump, hybrid heat pump and heat pump upgrade, and $2,400 for income-qualified households. A separate $4,000 rebate is for income-qualified natural gas customers who switch to a heat pump.
Do I need a PSE contractor?
Yes for the heat pump, water heater and insulation rebates we read. PSE says you may not use an out-of-network contractor or do the work yourself.
Can I get both a heat pump and a water heater rebate?
The pages we read do not say you cannot. Each rebate has its own rules and deadlines, and PSE says rebates cannot be combined except where noted, so ask an Energy Advisor before you plan on stacking.
Is the federal tax credit still there?
No. The IRS says the residential clean energy credit does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025.
Are condos and apartments covered?
PSE says these rebates apply to existing single-family properties only. Buildings with five or more attached units use PSE's multifamily page.
