Our installer rankings come from public Google reviews, weighted so that lots of good reviews count more than a few. Here's exactly how, and how we make money.
For each company we take its Google rating and its number of reviews, then calculate a review-weighted score (a Bayesian average):
score = (reviews ÷ (reviews + 25)) × rating + (25 ÷ (reviews + 25)) × 4.5
In plain words: every company starts near an average of 4.5 stars. The more reviews it has, the more its real rating counts. A 4.9 from 400 reviews scores higher than a 5.0 from 3, because 400 happy customers is stronger proof than 3.
HomePowerRebate is free for homeowners and free for installers. Right now no one pays us: no referral fees and no paid listings. If that changes, we'll say so on this page, and money will never change where a company ranks. Companies can't pay to be listed higher or to remove bad reviews.
Reviews measure customer happiness, not technical skill. Before you hire, get two or more written quotes, ask how the system was sized, confirm licence and insurance, and ask who handles the rebate paperwork.
Once a month: new and changing rebate programs across every province and state we cover, plus what's new in heat pumps, solar and batteries. Short, sourced, no marketing.
