What is open for Fort Collins homes in 2026
We read Efficiency Works' January 2026 sheets and its rebate page on October 5, 2026. Applications are due within 45 days of purchase or project completion, and funding is limited.
Heat pump
Ducted $1,500 or $2,000 per unit, ductless $500 per ton ($1,000 replacing baseboard), ground-source $3,000.
Heat pump water heater
$600 replacing electric or propane, $400 replacing gas. ENERGY STAR certified.
Insulation and air sealing
Air sealing $310 to $770. An Efficiency Works assessment comes first.
Windows and doors
ENERGY STAR Northern climate zone products. A combustion safety test is required.
Bundling bonus
Heat pump plus an envelope measure within six months.
Rental bonus
Rental properties served by Fort Collins Utilities get twice the retrofit rebate, with a 12-month lease and approval before work.
Induction range or cooktop
Replacing gas, with before and after photos. Up to $50 replacing electric. Heat pump dryers up to $100.
Electric panel upgrade
200-amp or larger panel, only with a heat pump, induction, EV charger, solar or battery project. A load sharing device pays $250.
State heat pump discount
$83 for a heat pump water heater. Off your invoice from a registered contractor.
State income-based rebates (HEAR)
Up to $14,000 per household while open. Larimer County was in the Front Range region, now closed.
Federal tax credits (25C, 25D)
Ended for spending after December 31, 2025.
Fort Collins homes
The American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) counts 74,558 homes in Fort Collins. About 52% of households own and 48% rent. About 52% of homes are detached houses and 9% are in buildings of two to four units. Only 31% were built before 1980 and 37% in 2000 or later.
Nearly half of households rent, and the program has a rental bonus for that reason: double the standard retrofit rebate for properties served by Fort Collins Utilities, with a 12-month lease and approval before work starts.
Why the bonus changes the order
The $2,000 bundling bonus pays when you finish a heat pump and an envelope measure (air sealing, windows or doors) within six months of each other. Rebates and bonus together cannot exceed the cost of the work. If you can afford both, plan them together: book the assessment, do the insulation and air sealing, and then size the heat pump. How the program works
Retail items such as thermostats, induction ranges and heat pump water heaters are bought anywhere and claimed after. Retrofit work such as heat pumps, windows and insulation must be done by an Efficiency Works listed service provider on a home at least a year old. A package above $2,500 needs approval before work begins, or it is capped at $2,500. Efficiency Works says it may change measures without notice.
Gas or electric
About 66% of Fort Collins households heat with utility gas and 31% with electricity. Efficiency Works pays double the standard ductless rate for replacing electric baseboard heat, and $600 instead of $400 for a heat pump water heater replacing electric or propane. The Xcel Energy rebates on our Denver page do not apply to Fort Collins Utilities customers.
What ended in 2026
The federal credits ended after 2025. The Colorado Energy Office closed its single-family income-based program in August 2026. The state's invoice discount remains at no less than $333 for an air-source heat pump. Efficiency Works also lists an income-qualified CARE program for qualified renters and single-family owners, which we have not read in detail, and Flex programs for thermostats and electric vehicles.
