🔥 Heat Pump
The big stackable Home Heating System Rebates Program closed Dec 31, 2025, and the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (the $10,000 federal + $5,000 provincial "$15,000" pathway) had its funding fully allocated and closed to new applicants as of July 2, 2026. What's still open: Efficiency Nova Scotia's Home Energy Assessment pathway offers up to $5,000 to any homeowner, and HomeWarming still offers free installation for income-qualified homes.
🌡️ Insulation & Air Sealing
Still active as a no-cost upgrade for eligible Halifax households through HomeWarming, or up to $5,000 (up to $10,000 for moderate-income homes) via the standard Home Energy Assessment pathway for everyone else.
☀️ Solar
Efficiency Nova Scotia's SolarHomes rebate closed to homeowners on April 17, 2025 (it now only serves non-profits and charities), so there is no provincial solar rebate for homes right now. Halifax also runs its own Solar City program — property-assessed financing (the City lists a fixed rate over 10 years; confirm the current rate with Halifax), no upfront cost, repaid through your property tax bill via a Local Improvement Charge. It's financing, not a rebate, but it removes the cash-flow barrier that stops a lot of homeowners from going solar. (A watt just measures electricity, like how horsepower measures an engine — a typical home solar system adds up to about 6,000–10,000 watts total, which is why the rebate is quoted per watt instead of as one flat number.)

Renting or living in a condo?
If you rent
The heat pump, insulation, and water heater rebates above go to whoever owns the equipment, so you can't claim them directly as a tenant — that's your landlord's decision. Point them to this page, especially the free HomeWarming upgrades and Efficiency Nova Scotia's heat pump rebate, since neither requires upfront cash from the landlord beyond the project cost.
If you own a condo unit
In-unit upgrades you're personally responsible for — a smart thermostat, an in-suite heat pump, a water heater — can generally still qualify for the Efficiency Nova Scotia rebates above, subject to your condo board's approval for anything touching shared systems or the exterior. Solar City's property-tax financing is tied to the property title, so confirm with Halifax's Solar City program whether an individually-titled unit can enroll on its own.
If it's a whole-building retrofit
Honestly: this page doesn't confirm a dedicated multi-unit or condo-corporation program for a building-wide heat pump or solar retrofit. A condo board considering one should contact Efficiency Nova Scotia and the Solar City program directly to find out what, if anything, applies at the corporation level, rather than assume the individual-homeowner numbers above scale up automatically.
