Check your bill first

City of Penticton power customers are not in BC Hydro territory. We have not found a verified solar or battery rebate from the City of Penticton or FortisBC to list. We will not show an amount we cannot source. Solar can still pay back on sun alone here, since Penticton gets more sun than most of BC, but you will be paying the full price.

How much sun Penticton gets

Penticton averaged about 3.76 peak sun hours a day from 2020 to 2024, the sunniest city we cover. As a rough guide, a 5 kW system here would make about 5,490 kWh a year, using 3.76 sun hours times 365 days and assuming 80% of the panel rating reaches your panel after losses. Your installer's design for your own roof will be more accurate.

Homes in Penticton

The 2021 Census counted 17,360 households in Penticton. 40% of Penticton households live in a detached house (6,995 homes), and about 63% own.

If you are on BC Hydro near Penticton

Homes outside the City of Penticton's own utility may be BC Hydro or FortisBC customers. If your bill is from BC Hydro, the full rebates on this page apply. At 3.76 peak sun hours, Penticton is the sunniest city we cover, so a rebated system there would make more power per panel than anywhere else on our list.

What to do without a rebate

Ask installers for a price per watt and an estimate of yearly output for your roof. Compare that with what you pay per kWh on your own bill. If the math does not work without a rebate, it is fine to wait. Programs change, and we will update this page when one opens.

Battery first: outage backup

A battery stores power for when the grid goes down. The rebate is $500 per kWh, so a 10 kWh battery that cost at least $10,000 can reach $5,000 with Peak Saver. Without Peak Saver, the battery must be paired with solar and the rebate stops at $1,500.

The 50% cap and the order of steps

Every rebate is limited to 50% of the installed cost. You must hire a contractor in the Home Performance Contractor Network and submit a self-generation application to BC Hydro before you install. Wait for technical acceptance. After install, send the final inspection documents and paid invoices. BC Hydro pays within 60 days of approval.

Tesla Powerwall is not eligible

Tesla's Powerwall 2 and 3, Tesla inverters and Tesla chargers are not eligible for BC Hydro or CleanBC rebates. The only exception is an application made before March 12, 2025.
