What you get back
BC Hydro's amounts are for ENERGY STAR models on its eligible lists, bought from a store in BC Hydro's service area. FortisBC's amounts are for FortisBC and City of Penticton electricity customers.
BC Hydro: laundry centre

BC Hydro: air fryer
Single or dual basket models priced $50 or more, at the till only, until March 5, 2027.
Community top-up

FortisBC: washer and dryer
Washer $100. Dryers $100, $150 or $250 depending on efficiency. Apply within 60 days.
FortisBC: fridge

A worked example
You buy a listed laundry centre at a participating store and get $200 off at the till. If your postal code is in BC Hydro's community offer, you then apply online for the top-up of 100% of the regular rebate, another $200. That is $400 back on one purchase, by our arithmetic from BC Hydro's two pages.
Money off at the till, or a bill credit later
At a participating store, the rebate comes off when you pay. BC Hydro lists Best Buy, Canadian Appliance Source, Midland Appliances, RONA, The Brick, The Home Depot, Trail Appliances and Visions Electronics for in-store appliance rebates. Online, it lists Best Buy, Canadian Appliance Source, Midland Appliances, The Brick and Visions Electronics.
Bought somewhere else? You can still apply online after you buy. BC Hydro pays it as a credit on your bill within one or two billing periods. Air fryers are the exception: they only get the rebate at the till. Keep your receipt either way, and read BC Hydro's terms for the application deadline before you shop.
The community top-up, place by place
BC Hydro pays extra in parts of the province where demand for power is growing fastest. Only select postal codes qualify, not whole cities, so use the postal code checker on BC Hydro's community page. Here is how the places it names line up with the cities we cover:
| City | What BC Hydro lists |
|---|---|
| Abbotsford | Abbotsford is listed, and so is Mount Lehman |
| Surrey | Campbell Heights only |
| Maple Ridge | Maple Ridge is listed |
| Coquitlam | Burke Mountain, listed with Port Coquitlam |
| Vancouver | select neighbourhoods west of Cambie |
| Victoria | select neighbourhoods |
| Vernon | Vernon is listed, plus select communities between Kelowna and Vernon |
BC Hydro also names the Northeast Fraser Valley from Mission to Agassiz, Sun Peaks, West Kelowna and White Rock. It names no area in Burnaby, Richmond, Langley, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Prince George, Fort St. John or Squamish. In those cities you get the regular rebate only. BC Hydro's community page lists bigger heat pump and EV charger top-ups for the same postal codes.
Kelowna and Penticton follow FortisBC rules
BC Hydro's appliance deals need a BC Hydro account, so they do not help most Kelowna homes, where FortisBC supplies the power, or Penticton homes, which buy power from the City of Penticton. FortisBC runs its own appliance rebates and names City of Penticton customers as eligible.
FortisBC pays $100 for a washer with an IMEF of 2.92 or more and an IWF of 3.2 or less. Dryers earn $100, $150 or $250 depending on their efficiency score (CEF). Fridges earn $50 or $100. You can claim up to two per appliance type per household, and you must apply within 60 days of buying or delivery. FortisBC customers get a bill credit. Penticton customers get a cheque. FortisBC says it can take up to 90 days.
Check the model before you pay
An ENERGY STAR sticker is not enough. Both utilities pay only for models on their own lists, and those lists change each season. Look up the exact model number on the list, then check that the receipt shows it. If a store near you is out of stock, BC Hydro suggests checking other nearby participating stores.
Should you replace a fridge that still works?
A $50 or $75 rebate rarely pays for replacing an appliance that runs fine. These rebates help most when an old washer or fridge is already failing and you have to buy a new one anyway. If your home has a lot of electric heat, a heat pump or insulation saves far more, and those rebates are much larger. See our BC heat pump page and your city's insulation page.
What is not covered
Neither BC Hydro's fall list nor FortisBC's rebate list includes an induction cooktop, a range, a dishwasher or a freezer on October 11, 2026. BC Hydro also offers free products and advice to lower-income customers through its income-qualified programs, which is worth checking before you buy.

Common questions
Can I get the instant rebate and the community top-up on the same appliance?
Yes, if your postal code qualifies. The till rebate comes off when you pay. BC Hydro pays the community top-up only through an online application after you buy.
Does a heat pump dryer qualify?
Only if that exact model is on BC Hydro's eligible dryer list, or for FortisBC customers, on FortisBC's list. Dryers with higher efficiency scores earn more from FortisBC, up to $250.
I live in Kelowna. Why can't I use BC Hydro's deal?
Most of Kelowna gets its power from FortisBC, and BC Hydro's rebates need a BC Hydro account. FortisBC's own rebates pay $100 for a washer, up to $250 for a dryer and up to $100 for a fridge.
How many appliances can I claim?
BC Hydro allows up to two units of each listed model per purchase. FortisBC allows up to two rebates per appliance type per household.
Is there a rebate for an induction stove?
Not from BC Hydro or FortisBC as of October 11, 2026. Neither utility's appliance list includes cooktops or ranges.
