Heat pump up to $4,000

FortisBC Rebates for Homeowners

FortisBC sells natural gas across much of BC and electricity in Kelowna and a few other communities. Its rebates follow that split, so the first thing to know is which FortisBC account you have. This page lists what each one pays, read from FortisBC's own pages.

What FortisBC pays in 2026

We read FortisBC's rebate listings in September and October 2026. Amounts below come from our verified facts file and carry the date we last checked. Gas customers and electric customers qualify for different items, so read the note on each card.

Which FortisBC account do you have?

FortisBC delivers natural gas to homes in much of BC. It also delivers electricity in Kelowna and other communities, and city-owned utilities in Penticton, Summerland, Grand Forks and Nelson are covered by its rebates too. Each rebate lists who it is for. The heat pump rebate in the first card needs electric customers. The insulation and window rebates are open to gas customers and to FortisBC or municipal electric customers.

If your power comes from BC Hydro, BC Hydro's Home Renovation Rebate is the one to use for electrically heated homes, and FortisBC covers the gas side. Check the name on both bills. In Kelowna and Penticton we cover this in detail on the Kelowna and Penticton hubs.

Rules that apply to most FortisBC rebates

FortisBC's insulation and window listings require that your primary heating system can heat at least half your home through the whole heating season to 22°C. A house that depends on a small space heater in one room may fail that test. Rebates are paid on the R-value you add, not on the price. If old insulation was pulled out because of pests or mould, the program assumes a starting R-value for the age of your home and pays on the difference.

What FortisBC does not pay

We did not find a general cash rebate from FortisBC for switching a gas appliance to a heat pump when you do not qualify by income, and we have not read every listing on its site, so check before you rule it out. The province's gas fuel-switching rebate ended in April 2025. CleanBC's Energy Savings Program covers fossil fuel conversions for income-qualified households only, and its 2026 document lists no insulation or window rebates.

The income-qualified routes

Two FortisBC offers are income-based. The free home evaluation and upgrade program sends a contractor to your home and installs measures at no cost when you qualify. The income-qualified heat pump rebate pays up to $12,000 for a central ducted whole-home system. FortisBC lists the same income limits as CleanBC Level 1, so ask for the current table before you assume you qualify. BC Hydro asks income-qualified customers to apply to CleanBC rather than its own program, and the two cannot be combined.

How to claim a FortisBC rebate

  1. Check the account on your bill: FortisBC gas, FortisBC electricity, or a municipal electric utility named in the listing.
  2. Find the rebate in FortisBC's listing and read its eligibility tab before you buy.
  3. Use a contractor who meets the program's rules, and keep the final invoice.
  4. Apply online through the shared application. BC Hydro's deadline is six months from the invoice date, so check FortisBC's listing for its own.
  5. If your income may qualify, ask about the free upgrade program or the income-qualified heat pump rebate first.

Common questions

Does FortisBC pay a heat pump rebate to gas customers?

We did not find one. FortisBC's heat pump rebate is for electric customers. Gas customers who switch can use CleanBC's income-qualified program, and the gas fuel-switching rebate ended in April 2025.

Is FortisBC's insulation rebate the same as BC Hydro's?

The amounts use the same formula. The difference is who qualifies: FortisBC is for gas customers and for FortisBC or municipal electric customers.

Do FortisBC rebates apply in the City of Vancouver?

Windows and doors do not. FortisBC lists the $100 per opening rebate as unavailable in the City of Vancouver, and BC Hydro does the same.

Can I use FortisBC and BC Hydro for the same upgrade?

No. Pick the program that matches the main heat source and account for that upgrade.

Can an income-qualified household get the biggest FortisBC rebate?

Up to $12,000 for a central ducted whole-home heat pump, if the household meets the income limits.
