Penticton's average January low from 2015 to 2024 was -2.5°C, and the coldest reading was -24.8°C. FortisBC asks for a unit sized to keep 22°C at the local design temperature, so the installer sizes for Penticton's cold nights, not a fixed -5°C.

City of Penticton power, FortisBC rebate

FortisBC's heat pump rebate page lists City of Penticton electricity accounts as eligible. So Penticton homeowners use FortisBC's rules: $4,000 whole home, $1,500 partial, and a $300 bonus when you add a second upgrade. BC Hydro's rebate and its limited-time bonus do not apply here.

Only for homes replacing electric heat

FortisBC's electric heat pump rebate is for homes that are heated by electricity today. If you heat with natural gas, it does not cover the switch. The heat pump must be NEEP cold-climate certified, and a single mini-split only qualifies in homes of 1,200 square feet or less. The contractor must do a CSA F280-12 heat load calculation.

Whole home or partial

For the $4,000 whole-home rebate, the system must keep 22°C at your local design temperature. If it covers part of the home, the partial rebate is $1,500. Add another eligible home renovation upgrade and you may get a $300 two-upgrade bonus.
