What we found for Colorado heating help
Each card names the official page we read on October 21, 2026. Dollar amounts are the state's own; anything it does not publish, we do not show.
LEAP heating bill help
Helps pay part of your home energy costs. It is not meant to cover your entire heating bill. If approved, the payment normally goes straight to your utility.
Heating system repair or replacement
LEAP households may also qualify for the Crisis Intervention Program, which helps repair or replace a furnace or woodburning stove.
The dates
LEAP runs from November through April. The state says it will start taking applications on November 1, 2026, and you can apply at any time between November 1 and April 30. Apply early in the season. Payments are normally sent to your utility once you are approved, and you also get a notice telling you how much help you qualify for.
Who can apply
You may qualify if you pay home heating costs to a utility or as part of your rent, meet the household income limit for the season, and can show lawful presence in the United States for household members born outside the country. Valid proof includes a naturalization certificate, a Born Abroad certificate, a U.S. passport, a permanent resident card, or refugee or asylee papers. Your household means the people you live with and support financially.
Four ways to apply
Apply online through Colorado PEAK. Call 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435) to apply by phone. Download a paper application and mail, email or drop it off at your county LEAP office. Or pick up and drop off a paper form at your county human services office. You do not need an interview. Send everything to the right county LEAP office, or your application can be delayed.
What to have ready
Answer every question. List everyone in your household with Social Security numbers and birth dates. Include proof of income, your latest heating bill, or a recent rent receipt if heat is included in your rent. Add proof of lawful presence where needed and details of any self-employment income. Sign the form.
Why this page has no income table
The state posts its income limits on a separate table that is updated each season. We did not copy it here so you do not see an old number. Use the table on the state page before you apply.
Think about the longer fix
LEAP eases one winter. If your heat costs stay high every year, look at the Colorado rebates for insulation and heat pumps on the pages below. Ask about weatherization when you apply, since approved LEAP households may qualify for it.
Crisis help for the furnace
If your furnace or woodburning stove breaks in the middle of winter, the Crisis Intervention Program is the part of Colorado's system that can repair or replace it. You do not apply for it on its own: the state says it is something you might qualify for once you are in LEAP. That is a good reason to apply early in the season, before the cold snap, not after.
A note about proof of lawful presence
Colorado asks for proof of lawful presence for household members born outside the country. You list the proof you have, such as a U.S. passport or a permanent resident card. A member who cannot give proof can delay the application, so ask your county LEAP office before you send it in if you are unsure which paper to use.
