How much you get
If your Kamloops home is heated with electric baseboards or an electric furnace, BC Hydro pays up to $4,000 for a whole-home heat pump ($1,500 for a partial one), plus a bonus of up to $1,000 on installs finished Aug 1–Oct 31, 2026. If you heat with gas, oil or propane, that BC Hydro rebate doesn't apply. Your rebate then comes only from CleanBC's income-qualified Energy Savings Program: up to $13,000 (Level 1), $7,000 (Level 2) or $3,500 (Level 3) for a central or 3+ head system.
Who qualifies
- You own your home in Kamloops
- Your current system matches the upgrade type (e.g., gas furnace for a heat pump upgrade)
- Your HPCN-certified installer files the rebate claim
- Income-qualified households see higher rebates
How much you get depends on your income tier
Income decides the CleanBC amount, not a sliding scale for everyone. For a family of four, Level 1 is household income up to $94,900, Level 2 up to $118,600 and Level 3 up to $189,800 (the limits change with household size, and the home's assessed value is capped too). Above those limits, CleanBC pays nothing for a heat pump, and your only rebate is BC Hydro’s up to $4,000 — and only if you have electric heat today. You may still see “$4,000–$16,000” online. That’s out of date: CleanBC cut its amounts for invoices from July 6, 2026. The $16,000 figure only exists north of 100 Mile House, so it doesn’t apply in Kamloops. What you'll actually save each month
Rebates cover the upfront cost, but the number that decides whether this is worth it is the payback period — how long until the monthly savings pay back what you spent out of pocket. Here's the real math, using BC's actual current utility rates rather than a rough guess:
- BC Hydro electricity (2026): 10.97¢/kWh for the first 675 kWh/month, 14.08¢/kWh above that, plus a $0.2253/day basic charge. (Check current BC Hydro rates →)
- FortisBC natural gas (2026): roughly $1.66/GJ for the gas itself, plus delivery charges that bring most bills up meaningfully higher — your own FortisBC bill's "total rate" line is the number to use, not the commodity price alone. (Check current FortisBC rates →)
For every unit of electricity a cold-climate heat pump pulls from BC Hydro, it puts out roughly 2.5–3.5 units of heat. That ratio, the coefficient of performance, is why it beats electric baseboard heat on the same rate schedule almost without exception. Whether it beats a gas furnace is a closer call in Kamloops, where a drafty older bungalow and a tightly insulated newer build can land on opposite sides of that comparison even a block apart.

Heat Pump installers in Kamloops
Below are Kamloops-based installers with their real, current Google review numbers — this list isn't for sale.
Kamloops actually gets real winter — here's what that means for a heat pump
Kamloops sits in BC's dry interior, well away from the moderating coastal air, and its 10-year record (2015-2024) shows it: an average January low of -6.1°C and a coldest recorded morning of -34.3°C, cold enough to briefly dip below what any cold-climate heat pump is rated to handle at full capacity. That means Kamloops homeowners should treat the backup heat source seriously — most systems pair the heat pump with electric resistance or a furnace for those rare extreme nights — and be more particular about choosing a unit with a strong low-temperature performance curve than someone shopping in Vancouver would need to be.
