What window rebates pay in Spokane

We read Avista's Washington window rebate page on October 6, 2026. The rebate depends on a window's U-factor, a number that shows how fast heat leaks through. A lower number means a tighter window. The home must be an existing single-family primary residence that heats with Avista electricity or natural gas.

Working it out

A Spokane family that replaces eight windows with units rated 0.22 or lower, using a contractor, gets 8 times $225, which is $1,800. If two of those are sliding glass doors at $600 each and six are windows at $225, the total is $1,200 plus $1,350, or $2,550. If the same family does the install itself, the total is $1,275 at most.

Why windows matter in Spokane

The US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) says about 68 percent of Spokane homes were built before 1980, and 26 percent before 1940. Older homes are more likely to have older windows, though replaced windows are common too. About 54 percent of homes use gas as their main heat and 42 percent use electricity, so Avista's window rebate reaches both fuel types.

Windows are usually the most expensive item on this list for the rebate they bring. A rebate of $225 on a window that costs several times more is a small share of the bill. The better reason to replace is comfort or damage, not the rebate alone.

How to read a window label

Every efficient window carries a sticker from the National Fenestration Rating Council with a U-factor. Avista wants that number for every window and sliding door on your final invoice. The two tiers are 0.29 to 0.23 and 0.22 or below. A seller may show a window rated 0.30, which falls just outside the rebate. Always check the number against these tiers before you order.

Deadlines and paperwork

You must apply within 120 days of the installation, and bids and estimates are not accepted as proof. Include the final invoice that shows how many windows and doors were installed, the U-factor of each and the cost. You may apply online, by email to [email protected], by fax or by mail. Seasonal and recreational homes are not eligible, and neither is new construction. The windows must replace existing ones.

How to claim Spokane window rebates

  2. Choose windows with a U-factor of 0.29 or lower, and ask for the stickers or packing slips that show the number.
  3. Pick a licensed contractor, or plan to self-install and sign the self-certification.
  4. Keep the final invoice and the U-factor proof for every window.
  5. Apply within 120 days of installation.

$180 per window for a U-factor of 0.29 to 0.23, and $225 for 0.22 or lower, when a contractor installs them. Self-install pays half.

Do I need to use a contractor?

No. Avista pays half the amount for homeowner installs, with photos and a signed self-certification.

Is there a cap on how many windows?

The page we read did not state a cap. Ask Avista if you are replacing a whole house of windows.

Do sliding glass doors count?

Yes. Avista pays $480 or $600 per sliding glass door with a contractor and $240 or $300 for self-install.

Is there a federal credit?

No. The IRS says the federal clean energy credit ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

What to do next

Go back to the Spokane rebate hub or read the Spokane insulation page, since a well-insulated home with new windows can use a smaller heat pump.
