What Avista pays Washington homes in 2026
We read Avista's Washington single-family rebate pages on October 6, 2026. Equipment has to run on Avista electric or natural gas service. Idaho and Oregon customers have different tables, so make sure you are looking at the Washington one. Buildings with five or more units use Avista's business rebates.
Heat pump contractor discount
Per outdoor system under about 5 tons. $300 for efficiency level HSPF2 8.1, $400 for 8.5 and $600 for 9.5. Do-it-yourself installs are not eligible.
Heat pump water heater
A contractor discount on a retrofit unit under 120 gallons with an efficiency rating (UEF) of 2.1 or better. New construction gets $150.
Home Insulation Program
For attics, floors and walls that start thin. Duct insulation and duct sealing pay $400 each per home. Approved installers take it off your bill.
Windows and sliding glass doors
$180 or $225 per window with a contractor by U-factor, $480 or $600 per sliding glass door. Self-install pays half.
Free weatherization for lower incomes
Insulation, air sealing and door and window work for income-qualifying customers.
A quick example
Say a Spokane home has an attic with R-11 insulation and 1,200 square feet of attic. Avista's example for 1,200 square feet of qualifying insulation is about $2,100, at $1.75 per square foot. Add replacing six windows with a rating of 0.22 or lower at $225 each with a contractor, which is $1,350, and the two rebates come to about $3,450. Neither needs a new furnace or a heat pump.
Insulation is Avista's strongest offer
Avista's Home Insulation Program does not need an income test. You book a free assessment with an approved installer, who checks how much insulation you have, tells you your out-of-pocket cost, and takes the rebate off the bill. Avista lists ten approved installers on its page as of July 2026, and most of them serve Washington. To qualify you must be an existing Avista residential customer insulating your main home, which can be a single-family house, duplex, triplex or fourplex. New construction does not qualify. The home must heat with Avista electricity or natural gas.
The rebate depends on how thin your insulation is today. Attics must start at R-11 or less and reach R-49 or more, floors R-11 or less to R-30, and walls from none to R-11. Avista says only about 10 to 30 percent of homes in its area qualify on existing insulation, so a newer home may get nothing. That is why the free assessment comes first.
No-cost help in named communities
Avista says some homes in what it calls Named Communities can get insulation with no out-of-pocket cost, paid from the Named Communities Investment Fund. A participating contractor checks whether your home qualifies during the assessment. If it does not, you can still get the regular rebate. Avista's separate Home Weatherization Program also offers free work to income-qualifying customers, but we did not read the income limits, so confirm them with Avista.
Windows pay by performance
Avista's window rebate pays more for tighter windows. A U-factor measures how fast heat leaks through a window, and a lower number is better. A window between 0.29 and 0.23 earns $180 with a contractor. A window at 0.22 or below earns $225. A sliding glass door pays $480 or $600 on the same scale. Storm windows pay $5.00 per square foot with a contractor and $4.00 if you install them. You must be replacing existing windows, and the final invoice must show the U-factor of each one. Apply within 120 days of the install, and note that bids and estimates are not accepted as proof.
Heat pumps and water heaters come through your contractor
Avista does not mail you a check for a heat pump. Instead, participating suppliers give your contractor a discount at purchase. The contractor can choose to pass it to you, so ask for it in writing. Avista lists about twenty supply companies on its page. Avista also lists a gas furnace discount of $650 and a gas boiler discount of $550 for Washington homes, but we do not feature those in our guides because they keep homes on gas.
