Heat pump money available in Atlantic City in 2026
Each card names the fact we keep on file, with the date we last read the official page. Atlantic City Electric says its program runs on available funds and can end early.
Standard heat pump rebate
Split or single-package air source heat pumps: $500 at the first efficiency tier and $750 at the second (17.1 or higher on the seasonal efficiency scale). A ductless mini-split earns $750.
Cold climate heat pump (limited time)
A cold climate model listed with the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships earns $2,000 for a limited time, from April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
Switch from gas, oil or propane
Up to $10,000 or 50% of project costs for a full switch with a cold climate heat pump, and up to $5,000 or 50% if you keep the old system as a backup. Taking the old system out earns half of the cost, up to $2,000.
Lower-income bonus
Households with low to moderate incomes can add $300 for each qualified piece of equipment under the heating and cooling program.
Electrical panel help
If a heat pump needs a bigger electrical panel, income-qualified homes can get up to $4,000. Other homes get up to $300 for each new 240-volt circuit.
Federal 25C tax credit
No federal credit applies to heat pumps installed after December 31, 2025.
State federal-funded home rebates
We found no New Jersey launch date or amounts for these rebates, so we show no amount.
The company's own page headlines "up to $1,300" for its standard heating and cooling program. That figure is not for a heat pump. A heat pump rebate is $500 to $2,000 under the same table, and the larger switching amounts sit on a separate page.
A third of homes already heat with electricity
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) shows that electricity heats 34.4% of Atlantic City homes. Utility gas heats 59.3%, bottled gas 1.5% and fuel oil 0.8%. For the electric third, the large switching rebate is not the right line. Those homes use the standard rebate of $500 to $750, or $2,000 for a cold climate model during the limited-time offer. For the gas majority, the switching rebate is the one to ask about, and a contractor should price both paths.
Renters decide a lot here
The survey counts 16,567 occupied homes in Atlantic City, and 69.7% are rented. Owners hold 30.3%. The contractor submits the rebate for the person who pays for the equipment, so in practice the owner of the building decides. If you rent, share the rebate page with the owner. The same table lets owners add $300 per qualified unit if they meet the income test.
Older buildings, many types
About 67.4% of Atlantic City's homes were built before 1980 and 28.7% before 1940. Only 7.4% were built in 2000 or later. Housing here is more mixed than in a shore suburb: 15.5% are detached houses, 16.4% attached houses and 16.6% buildings of two to four homes, which leaves a large share in bigger apartment buildings. A ducted system is hard to fit into an old building, so ductless mini-splits are common. They earn $750 under the standard table.
Empty and seasonal homes
About 3,360 of the city's 19,927 homes, roughly 17%, were vacant when the Census Bureau counted. That includes homes used only in some seasons. Rebates are paid for equipment installed and used at the address on the application, for an Atlantic City Electric account. A property that sits empty most of the year may not earn much on a bill, so run the numbers before you pay for a switch.
Confirm your utility
Atlantic City Electric serves about 547,000 customers across eight counties in southern New Jersey. We found no official page that lists Atlantic City itself by name, so look at the top of your electric bill. If it says PSE&G or JCP&L, use our PSE&G heat pump guide or JCP&L heat pump guide instead.
