What EV charger rebates pay in Newton
We read Eversource's Massachusetts EV charging page on October 3, 2026. Eversource lists Newton among the Massachusetts towns where it delivers electricity. Rebates never pay more than you spent.

Federal 30C charger tax credit

The deadline is close
Eversource says applications must be complete, with Managed Charging enrollment, by November 1, 2026. The program ends December 31, 2026, and Eversource is waiting for state approval of a 2027 program. If your install will finish after November 1, the work may only qualify if a 2027 program goes ahead. Don't plan your budget on that.
Newton homes and home charging
The US Census Bureau's survey (2020 to 2024) counts 33,959 homes in Newton. About 55% are single-family detached houses, and about 70% of households own their home. That is a lot of driveways and garages, which is the easiest setup for a Level 2 charger. If you own your house, the single-household $700 rebate is the one you'll most likely use.
Older houses and panel space
About 80% of Newton homes were built before 1980, and almost half before 1940. Older houses often have smaller electrical panels. That's why Eversource's rebate is aimed at the wiring and panel work, not the charger. Ask an electrician to check your panel before you buy anything. Sometimes a lower-amp charger fits without a panel upgrade.
Pick a charger that qualifies
Eversource only pays if the charger is a Wi-Fi connected Level 2 smart charger, rated 80 amps or less, and on its Qualified Product List. Since March 2, 2026, everyone who gets a wiring or charger rebate must also join Managed Charging. A smart charger also shows your car's charge level on your phone and helps you shift charging away from busy hours.
Winter in Newton
Newton's average January low is about -5.3°C, and the coldest reading in our ten years of data was -26.5°C. EV batteries charge more slowly and lose range in the cold. A garage charger lets the car top up overnight so you leave with a warm, full battery.
Two-families and condos
About 21% of Newton homes are in buildings with two to four units. If neighbours in a two-family share one charger, Eversource's rebate rises to up to $1,400. Even in a duplex, a charger used by only one household gets the single-household amount. For larger buildings, Eversource has a separate multifamily program.

Common questions
Is there an EV charger rebate in Newton?
Yes. Eversource delivers Newton's electricity and pays up to $700 toward the wiring or panel work for a Level 2 smart charger. Shared chargers, Discount Rate customers and environmental justice communities can get more.
Does Newton Power Choice change which rebate I get?
Newton Power Choice picks who supplies your electricity, but Eversource still delivers it. EV charger rebates come from the company that delivers your power, so in Newton that is Eversource.
Do I have to join Managed Charging?
Yes. Since March 2, 2026, Eversource requires every wiring or charger rebate customer to enroll in Managed Charging.
What if my install is finished after November 1, 2026?
Eversource says it may accept it only if the program is available in 2027, and it expects changes. It's safest to finish and apply before November 1.
Is there still a federal tax credit for home chargers?
No. The IRS says the 30C credit covered chargers placed in service at your main home up to June 30, 2026.
