Short answer: Mass Save pays up to $8,500 for a whole-home air-source heat pump ($2,650 per ton), $750 for a heat pump water heater and 75% to 100% off insulation after a free home energy assessment. Households that qualify for the income-based Enhanced offer can get the heat pump at no cost or up to $16,000 back. Homes in a town with its own municipal electric company use different programs.

Common questions

How much is the Mass Save heat pump rebate in 2026?

Up to $8,500 for a whole-home air-source system, paid at $2,650 per ton. A partial-home system pays $1,125 per ton, up to $8,500. Households that qualify for Enhanced rebates can get the system at no cost or up to $16,000 back. Installs must be done in 2026 by a Heat Pump Installer Network contractor.

Do I qualify for Mass Save if my town has a municipal electric company?

Not for the electric programs. About 50 towns are served by municipal light plants. They use their own rebates and the 0% DOER MLP Z-Loan. If you heat with gas and the gas company is a Mass Save sponsor, some gas-side offers may still apply.

Is the federal tax credit for heat pumps still available?

No. The 25C and 25D credits ended for spending after December 31, 2025.

Can I get a battery rebate in Massachusetts?

We found no upfront Mass Save battery rebate. Batteries earn money through the ConnectedSolutions program instead, about $1,375 a year for a 5 kW battery in MassCEC's example.
