Window and Door Rebates in Langley

Langley's two municipalities have different housing. In the Township most households own a house, and the window rebate fits them well. In the City, most households live in apartments, which the program does not cover.

Quick quiz: home energy in Langley

Questions about Langley, from the data behind this page. Tap an answer to see why.

1. Whose programs should a Langley homeowner check first?

BC Hydro is the utility we use for Langley. Rebates often depend on who supplies your power or gas, so check yours first.

2. In January, Langley nights usually bottom out near:

Our weather sample for Langley (2015-2024) shows an average January low of 0 °C. Cold-climate heat pumps are tested at low temperatures, so check the rating at your coldest days, not just the average.

3. About how many peak sun hours a day does Langley get on average?

Our 2020-2024 sunshine sample for Langley averages about 3.3 peak sun hours a day. Fewer hours means less solar power per panel, so the size of the system matters.

4. We list heat pump rebates for Langley. What is the biggest 'up to' amount?

Our summary for Langley: Up to $4,000 from BC Hydro when replacing electric heat (+ up to $1,000 bonus for installs done by Oct 31, 2026); income-qualified gas/oil/propane switches up to $13,000 via CleanBC. The amount you get depends on your home, income and utility, so use the calculator.

A Township two-storey

A house with 13 windows, a front door and a patio door is 15 openings. That pays 15 x $100 = $1,500. An outbuilding such as a workshop or barn earns nothing, even if you replace its windows at the same time.

Two Langleys in numbers

The 2021 Census counted 46,925 households in the Township of Langley and 12,600 in the City of Langley. In the Township, 23% live in pre-1981 homes, 82% own and only 10% live in apartments. In the City, 38% live in older homes but 61% are in apartments. Across both, about 15,705 households (26%) live in homes built before 1981, and 8,405 of those are owner-occupied detached houses.

Rural parts of the Township

Much of the Township is farm and acreage land. The program covers the home, not garages, shops, barns or other outbuildings. The home must be a year-round primary residence, at least 12 months old. A cabin or vacation home does not qualify.

Weather

Langley's average January low from 2015 to 2024 was 0.3°C and the coldest day was -16.8°C. Winters are mild and wet. The gains from new windows are mainly less condensation and fewer drafts.

What counts as an opening

Each rough opening where a window or door was replaced counts as one. A bay window is one opening. Skylights are excluded. Each unit must have a U-factor of 1.22 W/m2-K or lower and carry a listing from CSA, Intertek, Labtest, QAI or NFRC.

Reading a U-factor label

The rebate needs a U-factor of 1.22 W/m2-K or lower, and lower means less heat loss. Many window labels show the older imperial scale instead. To convert, multiply the imperial number by 5.678. A label that says U-0.30 equals 1.70 W/m2-K, which is too high. A label that says U-0.21 equals about 1.19 W/m2-K and passes. Ask the contractor to quote the metric value for each model so you do not have to convert.

Do insulation first or together

Windows and attic insulation both cut heat loss. If your budget only covers one, compare each rebate to its quote rather than the headline cap: walls and basements pay $0.09 per R per square foot, while windows pay a flat $100 per opening. If you can do both, apply together and ask about the bonus.

If your income is lower

BC Hydro sends income-qualified customers to the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program instead, and the two cannot be combined. The 2026 program document lists no insulation or window rebates, so the free Energy Conservation Assistance Program is the route to ask about.

How to claim in Langley

  1. Check your home is a house or row home with its own meter, not a condo.
  2. Get quotes that list the U-factor of each unit.
  3. Photograph each label on installation day.
  4. Keep the invoice and apply within six months.
  5. Add insulation to the same application to check the bonus.
