What you'll actually save each month
Alectra Utilities serves Mississauga along with several other GTA cities, but it's the Ontario Energy Board, not Alectra, that decides what you pay per kilowatt-hour, and that price is the same across every one of Alectra's territories.
- Electricity, OEB Regulated Price Plan (Nov 2025–Oct 2026): 9.8¢/kWh off-peak, 15.7¢/kWh mid-peak, 20.3¢/kWh on-peak for time-of-use customers, averaging 12.8¢/kWh; tiered customers pay 12.0¢/kWh then 14.2¢/kWh past the threshold. (See the OEB's report →)
- Natural gas (Enbridge): varies by delivery zone and resets quarterly, so there's no single figure worth publishing as fact. (Check the current rate →)
The real numbers on Mississauga's winters, covered above, put the city in the moderate-cold band where a cold-climate heat pump performs closest to its rated best: 2.5 to 3.5 units of heat delivered per unit of electricity consumed, its coefficient of performance. Whether that beats your current gas bill still comes down to the quarter's Enbridge rate and your home's insulation.

Common questions
How much is the heat pump rebate in Mississauga?
It depends on your current heating fuel. Enbridge Gas customers get up to $2,000 for an air-source heat pump or $3,000 for ground-source. If you heat with electric, oil, propane, or wood, you get up to $7,500 (air-source) or $12,000 (ground-source). This is the same structure across all of Ontario.
Is a heat pump worth it in Mississauga's winters?
Yes. Mississauga's average January low is a relatively mild -7.8°C, and even its coldest night on record only reached -29.0°C over the last decade (2015-2024), well within range for a cold-climate model, which the rebate requires anyway. You won't be pushing the equipment anywhere near its limits here.
Alectra Utilities serves more than just Mississauga
Alectra Utilities bills electricity across a wide swath of the GTA: Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and several other municipalities all share the same electric utility, the product of a series of mergers over the past decade. That scale doesn't touch your rebate amount, which is set by the province regardless of who's on your electric bill, but it does mean Alectra runs one of the largest customer-service operations of any Ontario utility. Some installers here recommend getting a panel-capacity request in early rather than waiting until close to your install date. We haven't found an Alectra-specific heat pump top-up on top of the provincial program.
Mississauga's winters, in real numbers
Ten years of recorded winters (2015-2024) put Mississauga's average January low at -7.8°C, with the coldest single night hitting -29.0°C. That's a fairly typical GTA range, similar to nearby Oakville and milder than cities further from Lake Ontario's shoreline. A cold-climate heat pump, the kind required for this rebate, is rated to keep working efficiently down to around -25°C or lower, so the gap between what Mississauga sees in a normal winter and what these units are built for stays comfortably wide.
