$25 to $400 by product, $200 for induction

Vermont Appliance and Smart Thermostat Rebates in 2026

Vermont's appliance rebates are small and spread across several offers. Efficiency Vermont covers thermostats, dryers, stoves, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers statewide, Green Mountain Power adds a $200 induction cooktop rebate, and Burlington Electric runs its own list. One page gathers them, because the amounts do not change by city.

What Vermont pays on appliances and thermostats in 2026

We re-read Efficiency Vermont's residential rebate list, Green Mountain Power's home and yard pages and Burlington Electric's laundry and rebate pages on October 5, 2026. Amounts are maximums, and some offers are delivered through a retailer or utility partner.

Free items for income-qualified households

Free

Efficiency Vermont lists free appliances, products and services for income-qualified Vermonters, and $100 cash back for DIY weatherization. We did not read the income limits.

Most of these are small. The two that can change a bill are the thermostat (if you have an old manual one) and the dryer (Burlington Electric recommends ventless condensing or heat pump dryers).

Smart thermostats

Efficiency Vermont offers up to $100 cash back on qualifying ENERGY STAR smart thermostats that adjust to your schedule, the weather and your heating and cooling needs. The page has a Find a Retailer link and a qualified products list, so check the model before you buy. We could not read the eligibility tab, so confirm whether your heating system type is covered.

Laundry

Burlington Electric notes that qualifying clothes washers and dryers may get instant discounts at participating retailers, and that its owner-occupant washer rebates apply only to ENERGY STAR Most Efficient models, which is a narrower label than ENERGY STAR certified. It also suggests ventless dryers, either condensing or heat pump, since a standard dryer exhausts the heated or cooled air of the house during a cycle. Efficiency Vermont lists up to $400 for a dryer and $400 for a washer and dryer combination unit. Ask the retailer which amount is applied at checkout.

Kitchen and cooking

Green Mountain Power's $200 induction rebate is for installed cooktops and ranges, not portable units, and the application must be filed in the same calendar year as the purchase or within 180 days if filed the next year. Burlington Electric's kitchen page offers efficiency tips rather than a dollar rebate that we could read. An induction cooktop needs a 240-volt circuit, so a gas-to-induction swap may mean electrical work, and our Burlington heat pump guide explains BED's panel upgrade resources.

Heating by stove, cooling by window unit

A wood or pellet stove earns $400 at purchase, and a window air conditioner earns $150 cash back. Burlington Electric points out that an open window is a source of air leakage and recommends sealing the opening with rigid panels when the unit is out. Dehumidifiers start at $25, and Burlington Electric advises choosing from the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient list for a larger rebate.

Which utility is yours?

Efficiency Vermont's offers are statewide. Green Mountain Power's induction and lawn rebates are for GMP customers, in our verified list South Burlington, Montpelier, Barre and Rutland. Burlington has its own rebate list, with items such as lawn care, laundry, kitchen, ventilation and e-bikes. We did not read Burlington Electric's dollar amounts for each, so call BED Energy Services.

How to claim a Vermont appliance rebate

  1. Check Efficiency Vermont's qualified products list before you buy.
  2. Ask the retailer whether the discount is applied at checkout or filed after.
  3. Keep the receipt and model number for any after-purchase form.
  4. File Green Mountain Power's induction or lawn form within the calendar year.
  5. If you are income-qualified, ask Efficiency Vermont about the free products.
