Ducted heat pumps up to $2,200

Efficiency Vermont Home Rebates

Efficiency Vermont is the statewide program, and your electric utility decides how much extra you get. We re-read its pages on October 3, 2026. Weatherization now pays up to $3,000, or $7,000 for income-eligible homes, which is lower than the figure in its January announcement.

Burlington Electric and Vermont Gas customers are paid by their own utility for weatherization, up to $9,500 for a single-family home.

Why the weatherization figure fell

The January 2026 announcement quoted weatherization rebates of up to $4,000 and $9,500. Efficiency Vermont's page now lists $3,000 and $7,000 for offers effective July 1, 2026. The $9,500 figure survives only for Burlington Electric and Vermont Gas customers. We use the page, not the announcement, because the page is what a contractor submits against. If a contractor quotes $9,500 and you are a Green Mountain Power customer, ask for the program page to be shown.

How your utility changes the number

The same heat pump earns a different total depending on who sends your electric bill. A Green Mountain Power low-income customer collects the $2,200 bonus. A customer of a VPPSA municipal utility gets $1,000 at moderate or low income, and everyone else gets $200. Burlington Electric customers sit outside the bonus and instead use Burlington Electric's own post-purchase rebates of up to $2,900 on ductless and $8,750 on ducted systems.

Other utilities add smaller offers: Stowe Electric $250, Vermont Electric Co-op $150, and VPPSA municipalities $200 on weatherization and water heaters.

Ducted or ductless

Ductless mini-splits are cheaper and simpler in a home with no ductwork. Ducted systems pay more because they serve the whole house. Size drives the ducted amount, so a large home with a 4-ton system reaches $2,200 while a 2-ton system gets $1,200. Ask for a load calculation before choosing tonnage.

Financing the rest

Efficiency Vermont lists a Home Energy Loan with rates starting at 0% interest, and free products for income-qualified Vermonters. Weatherization first can reduce the heat pump size you need.

How to claim Efficiency Vermont rebates

  1. Find your electric utility on your bill: Green Mountain Power, Burlington Electric, a municipal utility or a co-op.
  2. Pick an Efficiency Excellence Network contractor or a participating retailer.
  3. For weatherization, have the contractor submit the project for pre-approval and complete your income attestation.
  4. Complete the work, including blower-door testing, and confirm where to send any rebate.
  5. Keep the invoice. Rebates are typically mailed within 60 days of final review.
