Furnace to $400 ยท Attic $600

DTE Energy Home Rebates

DTE Energy serves homes across southeast Michigan, including Detroit and Ann Arbor. Its rebates lean toward gas homes, which is most homes in the region: furnaces, attic insulation and thermostats. Its heat pump rebate is only for electric customers replacing electric heat. We read each DTE page on October 6, 2026.

Who DTE serves

DTE Energy delivers electricity and natural gas in much of southeast Michigan. Detroit and Ann Arbor are the two cities we cover in its area. Check your bill for the company name. Other parts of Michigan are served by Consumers Energy, municipal utilities such as Lansing's Board of Water & Light, or others. DTE's rebates need a DTE account for the service the rebate covers.

Rules that apply to most rebates

DTE's pages repeat the same house rules. The home must be a single-family house, or a building with no more than two connected units that are separately metered. It must be more than 24 months old, so new construction does not qualify. Most rebates also say you apply within six months of buying, and no later than December 31, 2026. Refurbished and resale equipment is not accepted for thermostats.

Heat pumps are narrow

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024) says utility gas heats 80.5% of Detroit homes and 70.7% of Ann Arbor homes. DTE's heat pump rebate does not fit those homes, since it covers electric customers replacing electric heating. That is why we lead with furnaces and insulation. Ann Arbor homeowners can add the city's own heat pump rebate on top of DTE's offers.

Watch the funding shares

DTE's pages show a percentage of funds left. On October 6, 2026 the heat pump page showed 52% already allocated, the furnace page showed 27% of gas funds left, and the thermostat and water heater pages showed 55% to 61% left. Apply early. The shares change, so read the page the day you plan to buy.

Free programs first

If your household income is at or below 250% of the federal poverty level, DTE's Energy Efficiency Assistance can pay for weatherization, a heating system tune-up or replacement, a water heater and a refrigerator. Call (833) 627-2300. Michigan's weatherization program covers 200% of poverty and is run by local agencies. Both are free.

How to claim DTE rebates

  1. Look at your DTE bill and confirm whether you are an electric customer, a gas customer or both.
  2. Check the funding share on the page for the rebate you want.
  3. Use a DTE participating contractor where the page asks for one.
  4. Keep the receipt with the date, model number and price.
  5. Apply on DTE's rebate site within six months, and by December 31, 2026.
