What BWP pays in 2026
We read BWP's pages on October 2, 2026. Each card names the fact with the date and a source link. Amounts shown as 'low-income' apply to BUSS or Lifeline customers.
Heat pump heating and cooling
Up to $5,000 for low-income customers and affordable housing providers. One new item must replace a gas appliance.
Other electrification
Heat pump dryer $200, induction cooktop $200, and a panel upgrade of $750 that cannot be claimed alone. All replace gas appliances.
EV charger
Up to $1,500 in disadvantaged communities. Renters are included.
Efficiency rebates
Refrigerator or freezer up to $75, attic and wall insulation amounts on the application, and a $100 pool cover credit.
Who BWP serves
BWP supplies electricity and water in Burbank. An earlier version of one of our guides called Burbank LADWP territory. That was wrong. Check the name on your electric bill first, since a city address does not tell you which utility serves it.
A worked example
Take a Burbank house replacing a gas furnace and a gas water heater. A 3-ton heat pump at $1,000 per ton would be $3,000, but the standard cap is $2,500. Adding a $1,500 heat pump water heater brings the total to $4,000. If the household qualifies through BUSS or Lifeline, the heat pump cap rises to $5,000, so the same 3-ton job would earn the full $3,000 and the total would be $4,500. These sums use BWP's published rates and are not a quote, so confirm the tier before you sign.
The gas-replacement rule
BWP's electrification rebates pay when one new item replaces a gas appliance. New construction is excluded, and a licensed electrician and finaled permits are required. An electric range rebate that we once listed at $500 is not on BWP's Electrify Your Home page, so we removed it. Panel upgrades pay $750 but cannot be claimed alone.
Renters and EV charging
BWP's EV charger rebate includes renters, which is unusual. If you rent in Burbank and park at a house or small building with its own meter, ask your landlord first, since a charger needs a permit and often a panel change. The rebate is up to $1,250, or $1,500 in disadvantaged communities, so a basic Level 2 install can be covered in full.
Low-income and affordable housing amounts
Several BWP amounts rise for low-income customers: the heat pump cap goes up to $5,000, heat pump dryers up to $600 and induction cooktops up to $2,000. Affordable housing providers can reach higher still. If your household qualifies through BUSS or Lifeline, ask BWP for the current table before you decide.
What BWP does not pay
We found no BWP rebate for solar or batteries on the pages we read. State and federal electrification money is reserved or paused in 2026, so don't count on it to add to BWP's amounts.
How to claim a BWP rebate
- Confirm your electric bill says Burbank Water and Power.
- Check which gas appliance the new item will replace.
- Hire a licensed electrician for electrical work and pull the permit.
- Submit the rebate application after the permit is finaled.
- Expect the rebate in 6 to 8 weeks for efficiency items.
