How much you get
Eligible brands and models
Whitby homeowners get a flat $125 off one eligible smart thermostat under Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program, either as an instant discount code used at checkout or as a mail-in rebate after you buy. Six brands qualify: ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa, and Sinopé. The rebate is capped at one per household, and current retail prices for each eligible model are compared below.

Whitby's newer subdivisions east of Oshawa were mostly built with central air pre-wired, so compatibility issues here tend to be about the app you prefer rather than the wiring in the wall.

Common questions
How do I get a free smart thermostat in Whitby?
There's no longer a free-thermostat giveaway in Whitby the way peaksaver PLUS used to run years ago. What's available now is Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program: a $125 instant or mail-in rebate on an eligible ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa, or Sinopé thermostat, rising to $125 if you're enrolled in the program's Equity/Energy Affordability stream.
What thermostat brands are eligible in Whitby?
Six brands are currently eligible under the provincial program: ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa, and Sinopé. The exact qualifying models change occasionally, so confirm the specific model number against the program's list rather than assuming every unit from those brands counts.
Your utility: Elexicon Energy
Whitby's electricity is distributed by Elexicon Energy, formed from the 2019 merger of Whitby Hydro, Veridian, and PowerStream's Ajax-Pickering operations. Elexicon does not currently list a standalone smart thermostat demand-response bonus the way Alectra does in neighbouring municipalities, so the $125 provincial rebate below is what to expect here. For more, see the Town of Whitby Community Energy Plan. Elexicon Energy.
