Gas homes: $500 per ton for a heat pump

Enbridge Gas Rebates in 2026

Enbridge Gas runs Ontario's home rebates together with Save on Energy under one program, Home Renovation Savings, and the gas side pays less than the electric side. This page sorts out what Enbridge customers get, what is free and what the Enbridge website still gets wrong.

What Enbridge customers can claim in 2026

We read Enbridge's residential page and the Home Renovation Savings pages on October 3 to 5, 2026. Enbridge's own page is out of date on the thermostat, so we use the program page.

Assessment stream cap for gas homes

$5,000

Insulation, windows and a heat pump water heater inside the assessment stream are capped at $5,000 for gas-heated homes against $10,000 for others.

One program, two fuels

Home Renovation Savings is delivered by Enbridge Gas and the Independent Electricity System Operator through Save on Energy. The same measures appear for everyone, but the amounts depend on how you heat. A home heated by Enbridge gas gets a lower heat pump rate and a lower overall cap, because the program is steering electric, oil and propane homes harder toward electrification. If you are on gas, read the gas row, not the headline number.

What a gas home gets for a heat pump

Gas homes get $500 per ton up to $2,000 for an air-source heat pump, or $3,000 flat for ground-source, against $1,250 per ton up to $7,500 for electric, oil, propane and wood homes. Rental homes follow the lower rate as well. Whether a heat pump suits a gas home depends on your bills, so ask an installer to compare running costs at your current gas price before you decide, not only the rebate.

The assessment stream and the gas cap

Insulation, windows and doors, air sealing and a heat pump water heater are paid through the assessment stream, which needs a first home energy assessment before work starts, at least two qualified measures and a post-assessment by the program's dates. The total is capped at $5,000 for gas-heated homes and $10,000 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood. See our Home Renovation Savings guide for the full rules.

Free help for lower incomes

Home Winterproofing gives free insulation and draft proofing to households that meet the eligibility checks or take part in programs such as Ontario Works, ODSP, LEAP or the Guaranteed Income Supplement. Enbridge's quiz uses income thresholds that run from $48,220 up to $127,576 and above depending on household size. Free is better than a rebate, so check this before paying for anything.

Where Enbridge's own page is behind

Enbridge's residential page lists a $75 instant smart thermostat rebate. The Home Renovation Savings page, which runs the rebate, says $125. We follow the program page because it is where you claim. If a contractor quotes the $75 figure, ask which page they read.

How to claim as an Enbridge customer

  1. Check how you heat: Enbridge gas uses the lower rates on this page.
  2. Check Home Winterproofing eligibility first if your income may qualify.
  3. Book the first home energy assessment before any work if you plan insulation, windows or a water heater.
  4. For a heat pump, get written pre-approval and use the gas-home rate.
  5. Claim the thermostat with a code or a receipt within 60 days.
