Windows & doors

$100/opening

Per rough opening replaced with an eligible ENERGY STAR window or door. Assessment-required tier.

This rebate is on the assessment-required side of the Home Renovation Savings Program: it needs a home energy assessment (about $600, refunded as a rebate), at least two qualifying upgrades, and pays an extra $500 bonus if you complete three or more. Niagara Falls has a mix of older housing stock near the tourist core and newer subdivisions further out, so how many openings actually need replacing varies widely by block — worth getting a real assessment rather than guessing.

Common questions

How much is the windows and doors rebate in Niagara Falls?

$100 per rough opening replaced with an eligible ENERGY STAR window or door. It's on the assessment-required side of the Home Renovation Savings Program, so it needs a home energy assessment plus at least one other qualifying upgrade.

Does Niagara Falls have its own windows/doors rebate on top of the provincial one?

No. We checked the City of Niagara Falls directly and found no municipal windows or doors program. Niagara Falls homeowners use the same $100/opening provincial rate as the rest of Ontario.

Your utility: Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI)

Niagara Falls is served by Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI), a utility jointly owned by the City of Niagara Falls and the neighbouring municipalities of Lincoln, Pelham and West Lincoln — it's a genuinely local, multi-town cooperative rather than a subsidiary of one of the big regional players like Alectra. The windows and doors rebate is a province-wide amount regardless of that ownership structure, but NPEI is who handles the electrical inspection if your installer's work requires a panel upgrade or new service connection.

What Niagara Falls's winters mean for this upgrade's payback

Niagara Falls has some of the mildest winters in Ontario outside the immediate Lake Erie shoreline, a result of being sandwiched between two Great Lakes and sitting at a lower elevation than most of the province — the 10-year average January daily low (2015-2024) is just -6.1°C, with a coldest recorded day of -22.6°C. Milder winters mean a slower payback on window and door replacement purely on heat-loss economics than a place like Sudbury or Ottawa, which is worth knowing before assuming the province-wide messaging about the rebate applies evenly everywhere.
