Niagara Falls has a mix of older homes clustered near the tourist core and newer subdivisions further out, so starting R-values — and therefore which tier of this rebate you land in — vary a lot block to block. It's worth actually checking your attic before assuming you're at the top tier.

Assessment-required path: bigger dollar amounts

The same attic work pays more if you bundle it into a full assessment-required retrofit instead of taking the no-assessment path above: up to $1,500 for attic and $780 for cathedral ceiling/flat roof. This path needs a home energy assessment (about $600, refunded as a rebate), at least two qualifying upgrades, and pays an extra $500 bonus for three or more.

Common questions

How much is the attic insulation rebate in Niagara Falls?

On the no-assessment path, up to $1,250 if you're starting from R-12 or lower, $1,000 from R-12–25, or $800 from R-25–35. If you bundle the same work into the assessment-required tier instead, it pays more: up to $1,500 for attic and $780 for cathedral ceiling/flat roof.

Does Niagara Falls have its own insulation rebate on top of the provincial one?

No. We checked the City of Niagara Falls directly and found no municipal insulation program. Niagara Falls homeowners use the same provincial Home Renovation Savings Program numbers as the rest of Ontario.

One call to Alectra covers your account, wherever else you've dealt with them

Niagara Peninsula Energy (NPEI) serves Niagara Falls. It's jointly owned by Niagara Falls, Lincoln, Pelham and West Lincoln, and it is not part of Alectra. For insulation specifically there's nothing to claim from NPEI beyond the provincial rebate above, but if this retrofit later grows to include solar or a heat pump, they're the single point of contact for net metering applications and any account questions, regardless of which of their old-utility service areas your home falls under.

Niagara Falls runs milder than most of Ontario, the payback math still holds

Of the cities we track, Niagara Falls has one of the gentler winters: a -6.1°C average January low over 2015-2024, and a ten-year coldest night of -22.6°C, both noticeably warmer than inland Ontario thanks to the Niagara River corridor's moderating effect. That doesn't mean insulation stops paying off, it means the return comes more from shaving the edges off a long, moderately cool season than from surviving a handful of brutal nights, which is still real money leaking out through an under-insulated attic every winter.
