Cambridge's mix of century-old Galt-area homes and newer Hespeler-area builds means duct layouts vary a lot street to street, so a model with a remote room sensor is worth the extra cost for older houses.

Common questions

Is there a way to get a smart thermostat for more than $125 back in Cambridge?

The provincial $125 rebate is the main lever in Cambridge. Peak Perks is a separate province-wide Save on Energy program for homes with central air or a heat pump: enroll an eligible smart thermostat and get a $75 prepaid card, then $20 a year for staying in, in exchange for small thermostat adjustments on peak summer days.

Which thermostats qualify for the Cambridge rebate?

The Home Renovation Savings Program covers specific models from six manufacturers: ecobee, Google Nest, Honeywell Home, Copeland Sensi, Mysa, and Sinopé. Check the current model list on the program site before buying, since not every thermostat a brand sells is on it.

Your utility: GrandBridge Energy

GrandBridge Energy, formed from the 2024 merger of Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro with Waterloo North Hydro, does not currently advertise a standalone smart thermostat demand-response program on its site. The $125 rebate below still applies regardless of which legacy utility used to bill your address. If GrandBridge later rolls the old Peak Perks-style program out across its combined territory, it will show up on their site rather than on this page. For more, see the City of Cambridge Corporate Climate Action Plan. GrandBridge Energy.
