What Save on Energy programs pay in 2026
We re-read the program pages between October 3 and 5, 2026. Each card shows its status and source.
Heat pump
$1,250 per ton up to $7,500 for an air-source heat pump in an electric, oil, propane or wood home, and up to $12,000 for ground-source. Gas homes get the lower rate through Enbridge.
Insulation
50% of cost for attic work up to $1,250 without an assessment, and larger amounts in the assessment stream.
Solar and battery
Solar $1,000 per kW up to $5,000, and a battery $300 per kWh up to $5,000 only with new solar.
Smart thermostat
One per household, with a code or a receipt within 60 days.
Appliances
Six appliance rebates for new ENERGY STAR Most Efficient models replacing an electric appliance.
Peak Perks
A prepaid card for joining the summer demand response program with central air and an eligible Wi-Fi thermostat.
Energy Affordability Program
Free upgrades for income-qualified households, including efficient fridges and freezers.
EV charger
None of Save on Energy's five residential programs pays for a home EV charger.
Five programs, one site
Save on Energy's For Your Home page lists Home Renovation Savings, Peak Perks, the Energy Affordability Program, a resources section and My Energy Action Plan. Home Renovation Savings is the one with large amounts, and it is run together with Enbridge Gas. The others are smaller or aimed at income-qualified households, so start with the one that matches your income and your heating.
Which program fits which household
If your income is under the Energy Affordability Program limits, start there, because the upgrades are free. If you own a house, the choice is between the no-assessment measures (heat pumps, smart thermostats, attic insulation, solar and battery) and the assessment stream (insulation, windows, air sealing, a water heater). Condo and apartment residents can look at appliances and Peak Perks, which are not tied to a house type.
What a gas home gets
Enbridge gas customers get lower heat pump amounts, $500 per ton up to $2,000, and a lower assessment cap of $5,000 against $10,000. See our Enbridge page for the gas side.
What is not covered
None of the five residential programs pays for an EV charger, and we found no HRV or ERV measure for houses. Gas furnaces earn nothing. Federal programs such as the Greener Homes loan are closed. Our Ontario EV charger page and HRV page explain what to do instead.
Dates to watch
The assessment stream needs the post-assessment scheduled by November 30 and finished by December 31, 2026. The program's requirements do not state whether the stream continues in 2027, so plan on the 2026 dates. The thermostat page states no end date.
