Up to $5,000 for a heat pump

Glendale Water and Power Rebates

Glendale's heat pump rebate can reach $5,000, but only when you replace gas. The water heater rebate is for gas tanks only, not electric ones, and Glendale also pays $1,000 toward a panel upgrade. Figures are from GWP's pages.

What GWP pays in 2026

GWP's rates took effect November 1, 2025 and last until funds run out. We read its page on September 28, 2026. Each card names the fact with the date and a source link.

Who GWP serves

GWP supplies electricity and water in Glendale. Burbank, Pasadena and Los Angeles have separate utilities, and Southern California Edison serves some nearby areas. Check the name on your electric bill first, since a city address does not tell you which utility serves it.

Two heat pump rates, both real

Some sites show $500 per ton and some show $1,000 per ton. Both are right, for different cases. Replacing a gas furnace or a gas and electric system pays $1,000 per ton up to $5,000. Replacing an existing heat pump pays $500 per ton up to $2,500. A 4-ton system replacing a gas furnace would earn $4,000. The same system replacing an old heat pump would earn $2,000.

A worked example

A 3-ton heat pump replacing a gas furnace earns 3 x $1,000 = $3,000. Add the $4,000 water heater rebate for replacing a gas tank and a $1,000 panel upgrade and the three items reach $8,000 on paper. Funds can run out and each item has its own rules, so confirm every line with GWP before you sign. The same heat pump replacing an existing heat pump would earn 3 x $500 = $1,500.

The gas-only water heater rule

An earlier version of this site said the $4,000 water heater rebate covered a gas or electric tank. GWP's page says gas only, and the rebate is time-limited. If you have an electric tank, this rebate does not apply. Check the current page before you buy.

What GWP does not pay

We found no GWP rebate for a smart thermostat or EV charger on its current list. A '$100 instant marketplace' offer and some other figures seen elsewhere could not be confirmed. Burbank also pays a panel rebate, $750, though only alongside another electrification item.

Federal credits are out too: the 25C credit ended after December 31, 2025, and TECH Clean California lists its single-family funds as reserved.

How to claim a GWP rebate

  1. Confirm your electric bill says Glendale Water and Power.
  2. Check that the system meets the SEER2, HSPF2 and AHRI rules.
  3. Pull a mechanical permit and have it finalized.
  4. Submit the rebate application with the invoice and permit.
  5. Wait for the check, which GWP issues until funds are exhausted.
