How much you get

Why this one needs an assessment

Windows and doors bundle into the assessment-required path alongside insulation, water heater, and air sealing. You need at least 2 of those upgrades — completing 3+ earns an extra $500 bonus.

Local programs in Oshawa

Oshawa Power and Enbridge Gas don't add a window-and-door top-up rebate. Durham Greener Homes, the regional program covering Oshawa, funds deep retrofits through its Deep Retrofit Rebate (up to $10,000) and credit-union loan financing, but you need a coaching session first to confirm whether window and door replacement fits your specific project. Common questions

Are window and door rebates available in Oshawa?

Yes, through the same provincial HRSP structure used across Ontario — $100 per rough opening, bundled with insulation or another qualifying upgrade. Durham Greener Homes, the regional program covering Oshawa, may also fund window and door work as part of a coached deep retrofit; ask a Greener Homes coach to confirm.

Do all new windows qualify for the rebate in Oshawa?

No. They need to meet ENERGY STAR's rating for your climate zone. A standard double-pane replacement usually won't qualify on its own; a Durham Greener Homes coach or your registered energy advisor can confirm which specific products meet the standard.

Your utility: Oshawa Power

Oshawa is one of the last Durham Region municipalities to still run its own city-owned electric utility, Oshawa Power (legally Oshawa PUC Networks Inc.), while several neighbouring towns were folded into Elexicon Energy in a 2019 merger. The province-wide windows and doors rebate doesn't change based on which utility is on your bill, but if you're comparing notes with someone in Whitby or Ajax, know that you and they are on different utilities even though you're a short drive apart.

What Oshawa's winters mean for this upgrade's payback

Oshawa sits on Lake Ontario but a bit further from the moderating open-water effect than Toronto or Burlington, landing in between — the 10-year average January daily low (2015-2024) is -7.4°C, with a coldest recorded day of -24.8°C. A lot of Oshawa's housing dates to the mid-20th-century auto-industry boom years, and that generation of windows is old enough now that replacement economics favour doing it regardless of exactly how mild or harsh a given winter turns out to be.
