$3,000 to $50,000 financing

Insulation Rebates in Edmonton

If you are looking for an insulation rebate in Edmonton, here is the short answer: there isn't one in 2026. The federal Greener Homes Grant has ended, Alberta has no provincial program, and the City says it has no residential rebates. The help that does exist is CEIP financing. For insulation, which lasts for decades, a long, fixed-rate loan on your tax bill can still be a good fit.

Insulation alone won't qualify

Edmonton's CEIP needs at least three upgrades per home. Attic insulation, basement insulation and new windows can count as separate upgrades, but check the eligible list with Alberta Municipalities before you plan. The rule is waived if fewer upgrades get your home to net zero, or if the property used CEIP before.

Edmonton's older homes

Statistics Canada's 2021 Census counted 396,395 Edmonton households. About 13% live in homes built before 1961, and another 28% in homes built from 1961 to 1980. Together that is 160,600 households in homes built before 1981, when insulation rules were much weaker than today.

Edmonton also has 21,010 households (5.3%) who told the Census their home needs major repairs. If that is your home, fix leaks and structural problems before adding insulation, so you don't trap moisture.

Why insulation suits CEIP

CEIP sets your repayment term as the shorter of 20 years or the useful life of the upgrade. Insulation lasts a long time, so it usually gets a long term and lower yearly payments. That makes it one of the easier upgrades to spread over many years.

The loan stays with the house. If you sell, you can pay it off with no penalty, or pass it to the buyer if you disclose it. You can also pay off one upgrade early to stop its interest.

Cold weather and air leaks

Edmonton's average January low over the last ten years was about -14.3°C, and the coldest day reached -41.2°C. In that kind of cold, every gap around an attic hatch or a pipe costs you heat, so ask your evaluator about air sealing as well as insulation.

Your CEIP project begins with an EnerGuide evaluation. It rates how well your home holds heat and points to where upgrades will help most. Use it to decide between attic, walls and basement, rather than guessing.

Townhomes and shared walls

Edmonton's CEIP covers single and semi-detached houses, row houses and town homes. The 2021 Census counted 38,525 Edmonton households in row houses and 28,590 in semi-detached homes. If your insulation work touches shared or common property, such as a shared attic, you need an approval letter from your condo board or building owner.

How to finance insulation through Edmonton CEIP

  1. Take the 30-second 'Are you a fit for CEIP?' questionnaire on the City's page.
  2. Send your pre-qualification to Alberta Municipalities. It will be handled first come, first served.
  3. Book an EnerGuide evaluation and choose at least three upgrades.
  4. Get quotes from CEIP Qualified Contractors and sign your agreements before work begins.
  5. Pull the permits your upgrades need, finish the work and book the post-project evaluation.

Common questions

Is there an insulation rebate in Edmonton?

Not in 2026. The City of Edmonton says it has no residential rebates right now, and the federal Greener Homes Grant has ended. CEIP financing is the main help available.

How much can I borrow for insulation with CEIP?

Between $3,000 and $50,000, up to 100% of the project cost, at a fixed 6.00% in the current tranche.

Can I use CEIP only for attic insulation?

Usually not. Edmonton requires at least three upgrades, unless fewer reach net zero or the home used CEIP before.

Can I pay my CEIP charge monthly?

Yes. If you are on Edmonton's monthly property tax payment plan, the CEIP charge is split into 12 monthly payments.

Do renters qualify for Edmonton CEIP?

No. CEIP is for the legal owner of the property. A renter can ask their landlord to apply.
