ComEd: $40 to $350

Illinois Appliance Rebates in 2026

In Illinois the appliance rebates come from ComEd for homes in Chicago and northern Illinois. ComEd pays $200 for a heat pump clothes dryer, $100 for an induction cooktop or range, $75 for a smart thermostat and smaller amounts for washers, dryers, dehumidifiers and air purifiers. You must buy by December 31, 2026. We could not confirm appliance rebates from other Illinois utilities. Here is the full list we read on October 6, 2026.

The rules in plain words

You must be a current ComEd residential delivery customer. The appliance must be new, so a used one or one from a reseller does not count. It must be ENERGY STAR certified, except induction cooktops and ranges. You must buy by December 31, 2026 and apply within 60 days of the purchase or by February 28, 2027, whichever comes first. The rebate cannot be more than the price of the appliance. You pay the tax. ComEd says a rebate cannot be combined with other ComEd efficiency offers.

Why a heat pump dryer is worth a look

A heat pump dryer uses a closed loop of air and uses much less energy than a standard electric dryer. ComEd's page says an ENERGY STAR model uses about 70 percent less energy than a conventional one. It is the biggest single appliance rebate besides the all-in-one units. ComEd's income-eligible page notes that most heat pump dryers are ventless, so they are easier to install than a standard dryer. Ask the seller whether your model needs a vent.

Induction cooking

An induction cooktop heats the pan itself. ComEd says induction uses about 18 percent less energy than standard electric cooking. The rebate is $100, and it applies to select models. If you cook on gas now, switching to induction may also mean wiring changes, which the rebate does not cover. Ask an electrician before you buy.

Gas company rebates are different

Peoples Gas and Nicor Gas pay for gas furnaces, boilers, water heaters and thermostats, not for clothes dryers or cooktops. For those see our Peoples Gas and Nicor Gas pages. Naperville customers get electric rebates from the city, not ComEd, and the city lists a $75 thermostat rebate on its own page.

What we did not confirm

We did not confirm appliance rebates from Ameren Illinois, and we did not read ComEd's rules for apartments in multi-family buildings. Ask before you buy if you live in either.

How to claim an appliance rebate

  1. Check the product is ENERGY STAR certified, or an induction model.
  2. Buy it new before December 31, 2026 and keep the receipt.
  3. Apply online or by mail within 60 days of the purchase.
  4. Wait about four weeks after approval for a check.
  5. Ask the store about instant coupons, which skip the form.
