Smart Thermostats and Peak Saver in BC (2026)

By Sam Menard · Updated September 26, 2026

Short answer: BC Hydro's Peak Saver thermostat rewards are for line-voltage baseboard thermostats like Mysa and Sinopé: $100 to enroll and $50 each winter. From October 2026, baseboard-heated BC Hydro customers can get up to five free Mysa or Sinopé thermostats, already enrolled. Ecobee and Nest don't qualify, because they don't control baseboards.

How Peak Saver works for thermostats

Getting the most from it

  1. Pre-heat: many people raise the temperature a little before the usual 4-9 p.m. winter peak.
  2. Keep doors closed in rooms you're heating.
  3. Opt out only when you really need to, so you keep your seasonal reward.

Not on baseboards?

If you have a furnace or heat pump, BC Hydro's thermostat rewards don't apply. FortisBC electric customers with central electric heat can get up to $150 for a connected thermostat.

What to do next

  1. Check who your electric utility is.
  2. Check whether your income qualifies for CleanBC.
  3. Get quotes from qualified contractors and apply on time.
