Hybrid heat pump $1,100, insulation up to $3,000

CenterPoint Energy Minnesota Home Rebates

CenterPoint Energy sells natural gas to many homes in Minneapolis, Saint Paul and the suburbs. We read its Minnesota rebate pages on October 6, 2026. Every rebate here is for CenterPoint gas customers, and one of them pays you to add a heat pump while you keep your gas furnace as backup.

What CenterPoint Energy pays in Minnesota

These are amounts for replacing existing equipment in an existing home. New construction amounts are lower and are listed on each CenterPoint page.

CenterPoint also runs a Home Energy Squad visit and a loan paid back on your gas bill. We did not read the details of those two programs, so we do not list amounts for them.

The hybrid heat pump is the unusual one

Most heat pump rebates in cold states ask you to give up your furnace. CenterPoint's does not. It pays $1,100 to add a ducted heat pump to a home that already has a gas furnace rated at 92 percent or better. In mild weather the heat pump heats the house. When the outside air drops to the switchover temperature, the furnace takes over. The page says the installer must set that temperature at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

That setup lowers risk. You keep a backup you already trust, and you only pay to run the heat pump during the part of the year when it is cheapest. The page also warns that running costs depend on your electric company or co-op rates, so ask for a bill estimate before you sign. The heat pump must be listed as a matched system and carry a heating efficiency score of at least 7.8 in the industry directory.

Insulation only pays when air sealing comes first

CenterPoint's insulation rule is blunt: attic insulation alone earns no rebate. The money is in sealing the leaks in the attic floor first, and then adding insulation. The page explains it with a coat. Even a warm coat is cold if it has holes. A trained crew must do the work, and only installers on CenterPoint's list qualify. The page lists them by area, so you can call a few and compare bids.

Wall insulation earns $1,500 and does not need the attic work. If you do all three, the combined rebate can reach about $3,000 with the rim joist add-on. The page also says a Home Energy Squad visit is not required but is a good first step.

Check which company sends each of your bills

These rebates need a CenterPoint gas account. A home that gets gas from CenterPoint often gets electricity from Xcel Energy, so you may qualify for both companies' programs. Rebates from different companies can stack when they are for different things, such as a CenterPoint furnace rebate and an Xcel panel rebate. Do not assume two companies will both pay for the same item. Our Xcel Energy Minnesota guide lists what the electric side pays.

Deadlines to remember

For furnaces, boilers, water heaters and thermostats, equipment must be installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026, and the application must be filed in the same calendar year as the install. Allow up to ten weeks for the check. Ask your installer whether they file online for you. CenterPoint says rebates arrive faster that way. A proposal or estimate does not count as proof. You need an invoice with the brand and full model number.

Guides

Common questions

Does CenterPoint pay for a heat pump?

Yes. It pays $1,100 for a ducted heat pump added to a home with a high-efficiency gas furnace, and $400 in new construction. It is for hybrid use, so you keep the furnace.

Can I get the rebate if I buy gas from another company?

No. These rebates are for Minnesota residential heating customers who get natural gas from CenterPoint Energy.

Does insulation alone earn a rebate?

No. CenterPoint's page says attic insulation only has no rebate. You need air sealing, which pays on its own.

Do I need a licensed installer?

For insulation and for the higher window rebate, yes, and the installer must be on CenterPoint's list. Furnaces and thermostats can be installed by any installer you choose, and a thermostat may be a do-it-yourself job.

What is the deadline?

Equipment must be installed in 2026 and the form must be filed by December 31 of the year it was installed.
