SMUD EV charger rebate
SMUD's Charge@Home program pays up to $600 toward a Level 2 charger and its install. If your panel is tight, a circuit-sharing or energy-management device (up to $200 back) may let you skip a panel upgrade. SMUD also gives a 1.5¢/kWh discount on all power used from midnight to 6 a.m. if you register your EV. Income-eligible customers may get a free charger through SMUD, and Clean Cars 4 All can help with the car itself.
SMUD heat pump (HVAC) rebate
Up to $3,000 when you replace a gas furnace with a heat pump, and $1,000 when you replace an electric system. The system must be two-stage or variable-speed and installed by a SMUD Contractor Network member. SMUD raised these amounts in February 2026.
SMUD heat pump water heater rebate
Up to $4,000 when you replace a gas water heater with a NEEA Tier III or IV heat pump model (UEF 2.87 or higher). Electric-to-heat-pump swaps get $1,000.
SMUD battery incentive
My Energy Optimizer Partner+ pays a one-time incentive for enrolling a home battery. It dropped on Sept. 23: new projects get $300 per kWh, up to $6,000. Projects submitted by Sept. 22 and enrolled by Dec. 31, 2026 keep the old $500 per kWh, up to $10,000. You must be on SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate and enroll within 90 days of permission to operate.
What about solar and panel upgrades?
SMUD's rebates page does not list a solar panel rebate or a standalone panel-upgrade rebate right now. Earlier versions of this post said otherwise; we've removed those numbers. The federal 25D solar tax credit also ended on December 31, 2025.
