Ontario Home Renovation Savings Deadlines for 2026

By Sam Menard · Updated October 10, 2026

If you want an Ontario rebate for insulation, windows, doors or a heat pump water heater, two dates matter this fall: November 30 and December 31, 2026. They come from the program's own rules, which we re-read on October 10, 2026. The heat pump, solar, thermostat and appliance rebates work differently, and we cover those too.

The short version

As of October 10, 2026, there are 51 days to November 30 and 82 days to December 31. Which dates apply to you depends on which rebate you are after:

  • Attic insulation without an assessment: finish the work by November 30, 2026. The contractor must enter your file by December 31, 2026.
  • Assessment stream (insulation, windows and doors, heat pump water heater, air sealing): your follow-up assessment must be booked in the program's system by November 30, and finished by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of your first assessment, whichever comes first.
  • Heat pumps, smart thermostats and appliances: the program documents and pages we read state no calendar end date.
  • Solar and battery: the work must be finished within 12 months of your approval. We read no calendar end date.

Attic insulation stream: no assessment, finish by November 30

This is the simplest route. The rebate is 50% of the after-tax cost of insulating your attic, up to $1,250 for an attic and $750 for a cathedral ceiling or flat roof. You hire a participating insulation contractor, and you do not need a home energy assessment. The program's rules (January 2026 version) say the work must be completed by November 30, 2026, and the contractor must enter the details in the program's system by December 31, 2026.

The rules also say you must insulate the whole roof assembly, not part of it, and that duplexes, triplexes, low-rise apartments and stacked townhomes are excluded. A house built as one home with a later basement suite is eligible. Because the contractor files for you, ask them at the quote stage if they can still finish before November 30. Insulation crews book up in the fall.

Assessment stream: three steps and two dates

This stream pays for insulation in walls, basements and attics, for windows and doors ($100 per rough opening), for a heat pump water heater ($500), and for air sealing. It works in a set order. First, a registered energy advisor does a pre-audit, before any work. Second, you complete at least two qualifying upgrades. Third, the same advisor does a post-audit. Work finished before your pre-audit is not eligible.

The rules (November 2025 version) set a hard end: the post-audit must be done within 180 days of the pre-audit or by December 31, 2026, whichever is first. All post-audits must also be scheduled and entered in the program's tracking system by November 30, 2026. The program says it can close the file of anyone who misses either date.

So if you have not had your first assessment yet, the 180-day window does not help you. Your real deadline is December 31 for the whole job. Book the pre-audit now, tell the advisor about the November 30 scheduling date, and ask when the earliest post-audit slot is. We have not verified how busy advisors are, so ask.

What you can get from the assessment stream

You get $600 for the two assessments after the whole job is done, plus the measure rebates. Bundling three upgrades adds $500. Insulation can reach $7,700 in total, depending on your home type and which parts you insulate. The program's rebate is paid within 60 days by cheque or within 30 days by Interac e-Transfer after your advisor submits the paperwork. Air sealing has an air tightness target, so the program suggests doing it as your third upgrade or later.

Heat pumps, solar, thermostats and appliances

The heat pump stream pays up to $12,000 and needs no home energy assessment. Its requirements document (May 2025 version) gives no end date, but it asks the HVAC contractor to file within 30 days after the install, and your approval comes before you buy. Our Ontario heat pump page has the amounts by fuel type. Solar and storage need written approval first and must be finished within 12 months of that approval; the October 2025 requirements show no calendar end date. Thermostats and appliances are claimed with a receipt within 60 days of purchase.

What nobody has said yet: 2027

None of the documents we read says what happens to the assessment and attic streams after December 31, 2026. They do not say the program ends, and they do not say it continues. Do not plan around a 2027 version. If a rebate matters to your budget, treat the 2026 dates as real. We will update this page when the program publishes its next rules.

A simple plan if you want to qualify

  1. Decide which upgrades you want and whether you need an assessment for them.
  2. If you need one, book the pre-audit this week. Do not start any work first.
  3. Get quotes that show a finish date before November 30.
  4. Ask your advisor to book the post-audit for the first date after the work is done.
  5. Keep your invoices and paperwork together. The advisor needs them to submit your file.

Common questions

When is the deadline for Ontario Home Renovation Savings in 2026?

For attic insulation, the work must be done by November 30, 2026. For the assessment stream, the post-audit must be scheduled by November 30 and completed by December 31, 2026, or within 180 days of the first audit, whichever comes first.

Does the Ontario heat pump rebate have a deadline?

The heat pump stream requirements we read (May 2025 version) state no end date. Your contractor must file within 30 days of installation, and you need approval before you buy.

Can I still get the Ontario rebate if I have not had an assessment yet?

For the assessment stream, you must have the first assessment before any work starts. With the December 31 end date, you would need to book now and plan the whole job to fit. Attic insulation and heat pumps do not need an assessment.

What happens if I miss the November 30 date?

The program rules say the administrators can disqualify a participant and close the file if the post-audit is not scheduled by November 30 or finished by the end date. Ask the program about your situation before you pay for work.

Will the program continue in 2027?

None of the documents we read says. We will update this page if the program publishes new rules.

Can I use the Ontario rebate and the new federal heat pump rebate together?

Not known. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026 with rules still to come, and it is expected to launch in early 2027.
