How much you get

No active residential solar grant exists in Edmonton in 2026. The City of Edmonton's own Solar Rebate Program for single-family homes ended in 2023, and the current Change Homes for Climate program covers multi-unit buildings (4+ dwelling units) only — a separate track from single detached homes, and it's a distinct application stream. (See Edmonton's current clean energy programs →)

What is available: CEIP financing for up to $50,000, repaid through your property tax bill over up to 20 years, covering solar PV and solar thermal installations. (See CEIP's renewable energy upgrades →)

Separately, and provincewide: under Alberta's Micro-Generation Regulation (Alta Reg 27/2008), every retailer must credit your solar exports at the same retail rate you pay for imports — a straight 1:1 credit, with no feed-in discount, and any unused credits at year-end are paid out to you. EPCOR's advanced meters in Edmonton are already bi-directional, so most homes need no meter swap — you just notify your retailer once your system is commissioned.

How to claim it

  1. Apply for CEIP financing and get approved before signing an installer contract, if financing
  2. Have your solar PV system installed and commissioned by a licensed contractor
  3. Notify your electricity retailer of your micro-generation status to start earning 1:1 export credits
  4. Repayment (if using CEIP) is added to your property tax bill
