Why Alberta looks different from other provinces on this site
We rank Alberta near the bottom of our Canada-wide province comparison, and we're not going to pretend otherwise here. There's no single agency running Alberta's home energy rebates the way BC Hydro or Hydro-Québec do. Instead, you're working with individual utility rebates (ENMAX, ATCO Gas, EPCOR depending on your city) and a financing program (CEIP) that isn't a rebate at all.
What you can actually claim
🔥 Heat Pump
Through ENMAX or ATCO Gas for ENERGY STAR cold-climate models. Availability changes through the year.
☀️ Solar
No direct solar grant exists in Alberta. Net metering is your main mechanism.
🔋 Battery Storage
No dedicated battery incentive currently exists.
🧱 Insulation
Via CEIP (up to 10% incentive) plus utility rebates. CMHC's separate 25% refund may also apply.
💧 Water Heater
No flat rebate — available through CEIP financing or utility-specific offers.
🪟 Windows & Doors
May qualify for CEIP financing as part of a broader envelope upgrade.
🚘 EV Charger
No confirmed residential EV charger rebate in Alberta as of 2026.
🌡️ Smart Thermostat
No standalone grant, though CEIP-financed HVAC upgrades sometimes include one.
CEIP: what it actually is
The Clean Energy Improvement Program lets you finance eligible upgrades through your property tax bill at competitive interest rates, often with a small incentive (5–10%) on top of the loan. It genuinely helps spread cost over time — but it's a loan, not free money. Compare it against a home equity line or contractor financing before assuming it's automatically the best deal.
