How much you get

No cash rebate or grant exists for home battery storage in Alberta in 2026 — not from the province, and not from ATCO, ENMAX, or EPCOR. What actually exists is financing, not a rebate.

Edmonton participates in Alberta's Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), which will finance an eligible home battery energy storage system — usually installed alongside solar PV — for up to $50,000, repaid through your property tax bill over up to 20 years at a fixed rate. It's listed under CEIP's renewable energy category alongside solar PV and solar thermal. (See CEIP's renewable energy upgrades page →)

The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan — which used to offer up to $40,000 interest-free financing that could cover battery storage — closed to new applicants on October 1, 2025, and is no longer an option for 2026 applications. (Confirm current status →)

Bottom line: if you want a home battery in Edmonton, CEIP financing is the real path — not a rebate. Apply and get approved before signing a contract with an installer.

How to claim it

  1. Apply for CEIP financing and get approved before signing a contract or starting work
  2. Sign a Clean Energy Improvement Agreement covering the battery (and solar, if paired)
  3. Have your system installed by a qualified contractor
  4. Repayment is added to your property tax bill, not a separate loan payment
