DAC Bonus Explained

DAC = Disadvantaged Area Census Tract. New York gives extra rebate money to households in lower-income neighborhoods. You need to check your home's census tract number.

How much extra?

  • Con Edison tier 2 (moderate): +$1,000
  • Non-DAC areas: No bonus

How to check: Go to the New York DAC mapping tool (link in our blog post) and enter your address. Your census tract will show instantly. If it's shaded as a DAC area, you qualify.

Quick Questions

Am I in a Disadvantaged Community?
Check the New York DAC mapping tool on the DAC eligibility guide. Enter your address and it shows instantly if you're in a qualifying census tract. Most of NYC and Westchester have DAC areas.
Do I qualify for EmPower+?
EmPower+ is Con Edison's income-qualified program. Under 60% AMI (roughly $55K for a single person in NYC): 100% cost coverage, free heat pump. 60–80% AMI: 50% coverage. Check your city page for your specific income tier.
Con Edison pre-approval timeline?
Con Edison pre-approval takes 2–4 weeks. Start here, then layer state Clean Heat and federal HEAR. Total timeline: 8–16 weeks for all three programs.
Can I stack Con Ed + state + federal all together?
Yes. The programs are separate, so applications go to different agencies. Con Edison processes their rebate first (2–4 weeks pre-approval). State Clean Heat processes independently. HEAR processes through federal channels. All three can coexist on one heat pump installation.
What if I'm a renter?
Renters are typically not eligible for homeowner rebates. Some income-qualified programs (like EmPower+ in certain cases) may cover rental properties. Contact us with your details and we can check.
