I Got Frustrated
Two years ago, I was researching heat pumps for my own home in BC. I called three installers, got three wildly different quotes, and none of them could explain what rebates actually applied to my situation. One said $6K, another said $12K, another said I didn't qualify.
So I spent three weeks digging into BC Hydro's website, FortisBC's programs, federal incentives, and utility demand response credits. By the time I had an answer, I was exhausted.
Then I realized: if I—someone who works in tech and isn't afraid of confusing websites—had this much trouble, what about everyone else?
The Real Problem
I started talking to homeowners. Dozens of conversations. The story was always the same: "I want to install solar" or "I need a new heating system," but they'd hit a wall trying to figure out rebates. Some gave up entirely. Others got fleeced because they didn't know what they qualified for.
This wasn't a homeowner problem. It was a rebate problem. Utilities, governments, and incentive programs aren't designed around how homeowners actually shop. They're fragmented, contradictory, and impossible to navigate alone.
What We Do Now
HomePowerRebate connects you with trusted installers and cuts through rebate confusion.
The promise:
- You tell us about your home (2 minutes)
- We calculate all the rebates and incentives you qualify for (instantly)
- We show you all vetted installers in your area
- You pick who you want to connect with (no pressure)
- We help with the paperwork (so you actually get paid)
How We Stay Honest
Homeowners worry: "If I'm getting matched with installers, are you taking kickbacks?"
We don't. Here's how we stay unbiased:
- We publish our vetting criteria. You can see exactly how we choose who makes the cut. Not all certified installers qualify.
- We require case studies. Every installer on our platform shares 2+ completed jobs with before/after data. You can see their actual work.
- We give you choice. You see all vetted installers in your city. Compare quotes. Pick who you trust. You're in control.
- We enforce "no sales pressure." That means no surprise upgrades, no aggressive follow-ups, no gatekeeping. Our installers know we boot them if they pressure homeowners.
- We make our money by helping you. Not by taking cuts from installers. Your success is our success.
Why We Started in BC
I'm based in Ontario, but I launched HomePowerRebate in British Columbia first. Here's why: BC has incredible momentum around home energy incentives right now. The province is leading on heat pump rebates, solar incentives, and battery programs. It's the perfect lab to learn what works.
BC is teaching us the playbook. We're figuring out how to communicate rebates clearly, how to find and vet installers at scale, how to build homeowner trust. Every lesson from Victoria, Vancouver, and Kelowna makes us better at serving Ontario and beyond.
The Expansion Plan
Right now, we're live in BC and focused on winning at the city level—Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, and 11 others.
Next: Ontario (January 2026) — Same mission, regional utility programs, 5 cities to start. We're bringing everything we learned in BC home.
Then: California (September 2026) — Home energy incentives are available everywhere. We're expanding to meet homeowners where they are.
Our Values
Transparency. We explain what rebates you qualify for, why, and what's outside our control (like BC Hydro processing timelines). No surprises.
No Sales Pressure. Your installers represent your interests. Period.
Vetting That Matters. Not every certified installer makes the cut. We look for honesty, quality, and real case studies.
Expansion by Demand. We prioritize cities based on actual homeowner requests. You can tell us which city you want next.
