The net-metering tradeoff
You can't take this rebate and also sign a net-metering agreement with your local distribution company. The rebate is designed for "load displacement" — using the power you generate yourself, not exporting surplus back to the grid. If you plan to export a lot of power, net metering may pay off better long-term; if you'll mostly use what you generate, take the rebate. Your installer can help you model both.

- Select a contractor and get written pre-installation approval (required before work starts)
- Installation is completed
- Contractor handles local utility interconnection approval
- Rebate arrives after the contractor submits documentation
