The Home Renovation Savings Program covers nine categories, and the amounts range from $100 to $12,000. Here they are, ranked by typical payout, so you know where to focus first.
Heat pump
The biggest single rebate. Amount depends on your current fuel (gas vs. electric/oil/propane/wood) and system type (air-source vs. ground-source). See exactly how the tiers work →
Wall, foundation & crawlspace insulation
Part of the assessment-required tier — needs a $600 home energy assessment (refunded) and at least one other qualifying upgrade alongside it.
Solar panels
$1,000/kW, capped at 50% of cost. You have to choose this rebate or net metering — not both. How to decide which fits your home →
Battery storage
$300/kWh, capped at 50% of cost. Stacks with the solar rebate for up to $10,000 combined on the same project.
Attic insulation
No assessment needed — just confirm eligibility, pick a participating contractor, and get it installed. Amount scales with your starting R-value.
Windows & doors
Per rough opening replaced with an ENERGY STAR-rated window or door. Assessment-required tier.
Heat pump water heater
Replaces a gas, electric, or oil tank. Pairs naturally with insulation or windows to hit the 2-upgrade minimum.
Air sealing
Draftproofing your home's envelope, verified by the before/after energy assessment.
Smart thermostat
The smallest rebate, but the easiest — instant discount before you buy, or mail-in after. Compare the eligible models →
Don't forget appliances
A separate track covers appliances ($25–$200 each: heat pump dryer, induction cooktop, washer, fridge, freezer, dishwasher) — not included above since it's per-appliance rather than a single project.
Two of these need an energy assessment
Insulation (wall/foundation), windows & doors, water heater, and air sealing require a home energy assessment first ($600, refunded as part of your rebate) and at least two of those four categories completed together. Everything else on this list just needs an eligibility form and a participating contractor or retailer. Full breakdown of both tracks →
