The honest answer: no dedicated HRV rebate in Richmond Hill
Ontario's provincial Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP), delivered through Enbridge Gas and local electric utilities like Alectra Utilities in Richmond Hill, covers heat pumps, insulation, windows and doors, air sealing, solar, smart thermostats, and a handful of appliances. Heat recovery ventilators and energy recovery ventilators are not on that eligible-measures list, whether installed on their own or alongside another upgrade. This isn't a technicality or a paperwork gap — we checked the program's own eligible-upgrades documentation directly, and ventilation equipment simply doesn't appear in either its assessment-required or no-assessment-required tiers.
Richmond Hill's mix of older 1960s-70s homes and newer infill construction means ventilation needs vary block by block, but the rebate answer stays the same across all of them: nothing dedicated.
HRSP has no HRV/ERV category for Richmond Hill homeowners, standalone or paired with another upgrade.
Enbridge Gas runs a separate ERV/HRV incentive, but it's restricted to commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings — not single-family Richmond Hill homes.
The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant, which used to fund ventilation as part of a broader retrofit, stopped accepting new applications in February 2024.
What we checked
- The Home Renovation Savings Program's own eligible-upgrades list (homerenovationsavings.ca) — no ventilation category in either the assessment-required or no-assessment-required tiers
- Enbridge Gas's ERV/HRV incentive page — confirmed it applies to multi-family, commercial, and industrial buildings, not single-family homes like most Richmond Hill properties
- The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant, which formerly counted HRV/ERV toward its retrofit grant — closed to new applicants since February 2024, with the final document-submission deadline passed as of December 31, 2025
- The Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, the federal replacement for income-qualified households — as of 2026-09-02, it operates in Manitoba, BC, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and PEI, but has not launched in Ontario
Why this matters if you're sealing up your Richmond Hill home
Air sealing, insulation, and window upgrades — all rebate-eligible under HRSP — make a home tighter, which is good for energy bills but can trap stale air, moisture, and indoor pollutants that used to leak out on their own. An HRV or ERV solves that by swapping stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air while recovering most of the heat. It's a real need for a well-sealed Richmond Hill home; Ontario just doesn't currently pay toward it the way British Columbia does with its income-qualified CleanBC top-up. Our HRV guide covers system costs, sizing, and what to look for from a contractor.
What actually helps pay for HRV in Richmond Hill
- Ask your HVAC contractor to quote the HRV/ERV as part of the same job as a rebate-eligible upgrade (heat pump, insulation, or windows) — you won't get a rebate for the ventilation piece, but bundling can reduce labour costs
- Check whether your project qualifies as a new-construction or major-renovation build under the Ontario Building Code, which can require an HRV regardless of rebate availability — in that case it's a code cost, not an optional upgrade
- Watch for the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program's Ontario rollout; it isn't available here yet but has launched in five other provinces

Common questions
Is there an HRV or ERV rebate in Richmond Hill?
No. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP) does not list heat recovery ventilators (HRV) or energy recovery ventilators (ERV) as an eligible upgrade category for homeowners in Richmond Hill or anywhere else in the province. The program covers heat pumps, insulation, windows/doors, air sealing, solar, smart thermostats, and select appliances — ventilation equipment is not on that list.
Does Enbridge Gas offer an HRV rebate to Richmond Hill homeowners?
Enbridge Gas does run an ERV/HRV incentive, but it's restricted to commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential buildings — not single-family or freehold homes. A single-family Richmond Hill homeowner installing an HRV in their own house does not qualify for it.
